July 2020 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in Latinx, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Appreciate your help but you shouldn't be adding notes to the short description template. You may add it to the main body only if you can find references from RS to support your claim. Field Marshal Aryan (talk) 17:04, 6 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Latinx; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. signed, Rosguill talk 17:38, 6 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

It may look that way but the term Latix is not recognized by RAE which holds the what the Spanish language cant and cant be and the term Latinx perReal Academia Española said it doesn't recognize posting lies wont help it will it'll just get people to sued for lies ADiaz27 (talk) 17:41, 6 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

The RAE is just one source among many; the article must reflect the consensus across all relevant reliable sources. Moreover, you need to follow Wikipedia's dispute resolution process: three editors have directly taken issue with your changes, you need to go to the talk page to advocate for your changes and convince people to adopt your suggested revisions. If you continue to just reinstate your edits despite multiple other editors disagreeing, it will result in a loss of editing privileges. Whether or not you are right is irrelevant, you need to respect our consensus-building process. signed, Rosguill talk 17:48, 6 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Rosguill, It's a case of WP:UNDUE weight. As noted here by Sangdeboeuf, the article already mentions the detail under criticism section. Also ADiaz27 has broken WP:3RR and again added it back despite being given a edit war warning. Please take this into consideration. Regards, Field Marshal Aryan (talk) 18:09, 6 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Field Marshal Aryan, If I'd come across this behavior on another article, I would have blocked for the 3RR violation already. However, I've made non-trivial contributions to Latinx and thus have to consider myself involved here. signed, Rosguill talk 18:19, 6 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

No not really the spanish language comes from spain and if spain says its isnt a word or a term used by them it is set. Spaniard's don't go to anglo americans and change their way of speaking ADiaz27 (talk) 18:03, 6 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

I find this boarderline racist to make these words like there set in stone. You and your people don't set the bar for what the Spanish language is the royal academy does remember that, you'll are Americans trying to encroach on others way of life. ADiaz27 (talk) 18:06, 6 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

ADiaz27, languages evolve all the time, just compare the modern day English to that of the Anglo-Saxons. Anyways, what you are trying to add in the lead has already been fairly represented in the Latinx#Criticism section. There is no point in adding that in the lead. Regards, Field Marshal Aryan (talk) 18:15, 6 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Field Marshal Aryan, the reliable resources you speak is the upmost authority to the spanish language (Real Academia Española) they are the ones that set the bar for spanish language. Certianly not news articles, not universities of America, and not influencers of America. Spain is the athority of its language www.RAE.com if you choose to ignore this you are admitting to sabotage of a whole nations language ADiaz27 (talk) 18:14, 6 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Mr.Aryan, What im saying is not criticism it was from a publishing of the Spanish Government, the royal academia of spain that they dont recognize the term Latinx, my question to you is who(give me names and resorces from them) in the royal academy the authority of the language is self is changing the term ADiaz27 (talk) 18:19, 6 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Rosguill,Field Marshal Aryan I want to have all resoruces giving to you people by the authority that controls the spanish language itself stating that this term is accepted. If not you people are committing fraud agaisnt a language and the people whom use it. I will not let this go because my people and the langauge we use will not be manipulated by Anglo Americans for futhering agendas ADiaz27 (talk) 18:27, 6 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

You have been blocked from editing for a period of 48 hours for edit warring and violating the three-revert rule. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions.
During a dispute, you should first try to discuss controversial changes and seek consensus. If that proves unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 18:32, 6 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

While waiting... edit

Madrid street ad using baidefeis ("by the face") rather than gratis. This is a phonetic rendering of a non-existent English calque of por la cara ("free").

ADiaz27, while waiting out your block, I'm going to add a "Welcome" message below with some helpful links, that explain some basics of how Wikipedia works. I just wanted to add a few words first, about how languages work, in particular, English.

Latinx is an English word, invented by Americans, not a Spanish word. Nobody is trying to force the DRAE to include it in their dictionary. Nobody is trying to get people in Spain or Latin America to use the word, or to accept the word. It doesn't look like a Spanish word because of its suffix (and is unpronounceable in Spanish) because it is not a Spanish word. It's an English word; or at least, some people think it is, and others don't—but that's an argument for English lexicographers to have.

English is rich in loanwords and neologisms of all sorts, including words derived from other languages. You can no more stop this from happening, than British or Americans could stop the exact same thing from happening in Spain. The English language has no language authority such as Spain does with the DRAE, or like France does with the Dictionnaire de l'Académie française, so English words sprout up and either come into general use, in which case dictionaries (which are non-prescriptive) add them, or they just disappear after a time and never make it into the dictionary.

Sign at the 2017 Women's March, with the word Latinx.

The Spanish language does the same thing, adopting words from many languages (ordenador—"computer" in Spain, but not in Latin America—is from French) but mostly from English, which causes a lot of resentment from Spanish language purists. Most of these words are not accepted by the DRAE, but it doesn't matter, people use baidefeis (a calque and pseudo-anglicism) anyway, even though it will likely never get into the DRAE). There are also zapping, banconing, puenting, parking (accepted by DRAE!), fútbol (why not balompié?), and cash flow, holding, stock and dumping (all accepted by the DRAE).

Speaking of fútbol, that, of course, is a Spanish word, and an anglicism, and Americans are not trying to force Spain to write that word as football, or the Spanish word baidefeis as "by the face". Those decisions are up to Spanish speakers, not English speakers. It's very ironic, that you said above, "Spaniard's don't go to anglo americans and change their way of speaking", because in fact, that is exactly what you are trying to do, both at the Latinx article, and here!

Also, "Wikipedia" isn't "trying" to do anything. Wikipedia holds no opinions about any topic, it merely summarizes and reports what independent, secondary, reliable sources, say about a topic. So, you are arguing in the wrong place; you should be arguing with those reliable sources in English which use the word, not with Wikipedia. As soon as you get those sources to stop using the term, Wikipedia will eventually follow suit.

In the meantime, please drop your insistence about latinx; it will get you nowhere on English Wikipedia. It's already got you blocked temporarily, and if you keep it up when you come back, it will result in blocks of increasing length, or an indefinite block.

Now, for that welcome message I promised you. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 20:53, 6 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
