GoogleTrans gadget MT problem edit
Try your query out now. I was limiting the CTRL-ALT html markup translation to just URLS with /ContentTranslation/ in them but your UKWIKI URL had a cyrillic item in the URL. I have changed GoogleTrans to limit CTRL-ALT translation to the Content Translation system in another way, so it should work in the ukwiki now. In fact I tried it out and it did work. The UKWIKI version of GoogleTrans already has the latest version of GoogleTrans so you shouldn't need a private version of the gadget. Thanks for trying out this feature and reporting the result.

- Hi Endo999, Thank you for the prompt answer. I've tried again but to no avail. (pls see here). My suspition is I did it wrong somehow in the common.js in ukrwiki:
- incerted the line: mw.loader.load('//en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Endo999/GoogleTrans.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript'); (it is the only line in the page)
- I am absolutely fresh to the topic, so please check the page if you wish (see the link above).

I used your line in my common.js and it worked just fine. Look here to see a enwiki to ukwiki article where I have successfully translated the english to ukranian. [[2]]
I can view your file but I can't use the gadget on it since the changes are locked. Remember, to select a paragraph in the second column that will originally be in English and to then hold down at the same time the CTRL and the ALT keys. You don't have to have the cursor within the selected area. You can also position the cursor over a english word in the first column and then hold the SHIFT key down. This should bring up a one word translation, which will show you the gadget is working on your wiki.

I have figured it out! You are not using your private common.js file. My private common.js file is
Your's is:
Clear the line from this common.js file of yours and enable the GoogleTrans gadget on the ukwiki by going to preferences then gadgets then clicking on the GoogleTrans entry then clicking save at the bottom of the page.
The ukwiki version of GoogleTrans always pulls in the latest version of the enwiki gadget, so you will have the translation feature.

- Thanks for giving me some feedback on the use of the gadget feature, and trying it out. In order to use the gadget on the ruwiki you will have to have a private version of it, since GoogleTrans does not exist on the ruwiki. Remember that it is your private user space common.js file that you need to put the single line in you tried before. In the enwiki my private common.js file is at
Make sure your ruwiki common.js file is similar in construction to this filename above (taking into consideration language and cyrillic differences) I believe you can even use the English version of the filename as in:

- Oh, you will have to tell me how useful the MT translation from English to Ukranian is. I am wondering about that. Do you find it easier or quicker to hand fashion the translation after some MT. I know the translation from English to Ukranian might not be the best. Still, Wikipedia seems to think it does make the task of translation easier, although the human translator is definitely needed after MT starts it job in order for the job to be finished. - Ukrainian translation moves on like billy-o. In half an hour I've created a new page (translated from Russian involvement in the Syrian Civil War) which has been accepted by locals without any fuss. Pls note I that am not a native Ukrainian speaker. Still the MT with my minor corrections has passed through. I plan to finish translating this article into Ukrainian as a test. The real fun will start when I translate it into Russian, wich is my final goal of exersise. My home project is Russian but now I am blocked for adding too much unwanted stuff in the Syrian topic. Small Problem: If yesterday the feature worked perfectly (see above) today it still works but with considerable delay. I kept pushing the magic buttons CTRL+ALT for minutes only to have the: "Automatic translation for Ukrainian is unavailable". But after a pause of 10 mins it started translating. It still takes more then 3 tries on average to get the translation. QST: Is this operation mode normal? — Сергей Олегович (talk) 08:07, 16 October 2015 (UTC)
- You seem to be getting some Wikipedia message from the translation feature itself. I don't think it is a Google message. Give me the article and paragraph you are translating. (Send me the paragraph you had trouble translating because your article will be locked to the translation system so I won't be able to try it out there). - Was it a big paragraph you were translating? If it were more than 100 fragments of html text then it may have hit a limit Google has. I have just lifted this limit to 250 requests per second per user, so you should be able to translate a big paragraph now. Although there is also the 4000 character limit. If you have troubles, then select half the paragraph and translate that. Then select the second half of the pargraph and translate that. I would like to know if this fixes your problem (if it does). - I just successfully translated your English paragraph to Ukranian. Could you please tell me the article on the enwiki that is being translated. I can go into this article and do the markup html translation there to see if there is some problem there. This could be a keyboard problem. Maybe the gadget code is not understanding that you have put the CTRL-ALT key combination down. Do you get an error message, or does nothing happen. Can you try the right CTRL and ALT keys. Most people use the LEFT keys. On most keyboards their are two CTRL keys and two ALT keys. Endo999 (talk) 21:09, 16 October 2015 (UTC)
- I tried again with your second text, the Ukranian to English one. I usually translated very quickly and successfully. On one of the attempts the translation did not seem to happen immediately and I did press several times. It eventually translated. I think what happened this time can be put down to good-old-fashioned network lag. Google just took several seconds to translate. Try it once (make sure you have pushed both CTRL and ALT firmly down at the same time once). Then wait a minute and see if it eventually translates. Maybe you are somewhere on the web where Google does not have good network connections.Endo999 (talk) 23:44, 16 October 2015 (UTC)

GoogleTrans gadget version that uses Yandex translation engine: specially for Cyrllic languages edit
In response to your message on the Content Translation Comments page, I have prepared a version of the GoogleTrans gadget to call the Yandex translation system. This version is called YandexTrans and can be called into your code via the line in your common.js file

If you are interested in Cyrillic MT then please give this a go and tell me how it goes. I've only got a free API key from Yandex on this one.
