Art+Feminism logo

You are invited to participate in Oregon's upcoming Art+Feminism events, which will be held in Portland and Eugene on Saturday, March 5, 2016. Please see the following links for additional information, or to sign up:

  • Portland: Yale Union (800 SE 10th Avenue), 12:00–5:00pm
  • Eugene: Architecture and Allied Arts (A&AA) Library (200 Lawrence Hall, University of Oregon), 12:00–5:00pm

About Art+Feminism: Art+Feminism is pleased to announce its third annual Wikipedia edit-a-thon, an all-day event designed to generate coverage of women and the arts on Wikipedia and encourage female editorship. Last year, over 1,500 participants at more than 75 events around the world participated in the second annual campaign, resulting in the creation of nearly 400 new pages and significant improvements to 500 articles on Wikipedia. For more information, see Art+Feminism.

Thanks so much for tagging article talk page with the "ArtAndFeminism2016 article" template. Looks like the Eugene event was very successful! I hope you all had a great time. I hope I can make the next one. ---Another Believer (Talk) 05:45, 6 March 2016 (UTC)

I tried to review participants' edits (from the Eugene event) and updated the articles created/improved section, but you may have a better sense of the subjects people were working on. Also, I added all new Eugene and PDX editors to Wikipedia:Meetup/Portland/Participants, which isn't really Portland-specific, but in case people want to be informed about future Oregon meetups. ---Another Believer (Talk) 05:53, 6 March 2016 (UTC)
Thanks, it was fun! I just watchlisted everything, I think and I will try to look things over. I promised to take one draft live and add an artist to the table of public art in Eugene, as well as untangle an edit conflict just as soon as I figure out where the text went! Valfontis (talk) 06:04, 6 March 2016 (UTC)
Glad to hear! I need to revisit that List of public art in Eugene, Oregon soon, too... ---Another Believer (Talk) 06:54, 6 March 2016 (UTC)

Andrea Bowers

thanks Valfontis for working on the Andrea Bowers edit conflict for me. I appreciate the help. lkvanden Lkvanden (talk) 20:22, 6 March 2016 (UTC)

No problem! I hope I got all your changes in there. It was nice to meet you and hopefully we can do another event like that soon. Valfontis (talk) 20:29, 6 March 2016 (UTC)

Props :-)

I just wanted to give you a fist bump for your efforts in improving Ruth Mountaingrove (I see that you moved it to your user space to improve it). I hope that my G12 didn't implicate any urgency or obligation; I was simply following protocol. Please let me know if I can assist you with improving the article. I'd be happy to help :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:31, 7 March 2016 (UTC)

I don't need help, but I need your assurance that you get that original research and WP:DONATETEXT are different matters entirely, as I mentioned on the talk page. You may have bitten a newbie by telling her the wrong information. Valfontis (talk) 04:53, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

Ledger art headings

Hi, Valfontis,

In creating wikilinks for Wendy Red Star I came across a curious glitch in Ledger art: the links to edit are all formatted as headings. Is that something you can repair? Thanks! – --Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 16:06, 11 March 2016 (UTC)

Hi, I see what you mean, and that does look awfully weird, but when I logged in to fix it, it went back to normal. I only checked it in Opera though. Is it still there for you? Are you logged in and what browser are you using? Valfontis (talk) 04:51, 12 March 2016 (UTC)
I'm logged in, using Chrome, still seeing the Edit links on Ledger art formatted as subheadings at the end of each subheading. No other pages I've touched today look like this. My theory is gremlins. – Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 05:37, 12 March 2016 (UTC)
P.S. - the section links to edit also don't go anywhere. Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 05:42, 12 March 2016 (UTC)
I noticed this same problem in another article a few days ago, but I can't remember which article. I looked at the Ledger art article on Friday, and it had the same problem noted by User:Grand'mere Eugene. Today, however, "Ledger art" looks normal, no odd edit buttons. I'm using Firefox. Finetooth (talk) 17:24, 13 March 2016 (UTC)
Too weird! Today Ledger art looks entirely normal while I'm logged in on Chrome, and the page history shows it has not been edited since Jan. 16... Gremlins, I say, gremlins! -- Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 18:23, 13 March 2016 (UTC)

I wonder if a null edit (i.e. save the page with no changes and no edit summary) will fix these things. Those don't show up on the edit log. Valfontis (talk) 21:45, 13 March 2016 (UTC)

I just found another page with this same odd glitch; I tried your suggestion, and it worked! I've run across these occasionally, and I'm glad I can fix them now. Thank you! (talk page stalker)Gorthian (talk) 02:30, 15 March 2016 (UTC)

Povey on the Main Page

I thought you'd like to know that Povey Brothers Studio is due to be linked from the Main Page within the next 2-3 days, as part of the selected hook from my DYK nomination for the U.S. National Bank Building. This assumes that someone else does not swap-out the hook for an Alt in the meantime; it's currently in one of the DYK prep areas. The hook-Alt that mentions Povey was one of four hooks I offered, and I almost didn't post it, because I have no photos of the Povey windows in this building, and the NRHP nomination document does not illustrate them or even describe them. :(
I realize you don't have photos, either, and you might not even see this message until after the Main Page appearance, but I figured you'd like to know about it, in any case. – SJ Morg (talk) 10:34, 13 May 2016 (UTC)

Oh! Thanks SJ, that is good news! Hmm, I really ought to add the dates for all those buildings. I don't suppose one of our intrepid WPORE photographers could ask to see the inside of boardroom? Valfontis (talk) 13:40, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
The DYK entry ran from Saturday night into Sunday (on May 15 UTC), and I see that Povey Brothers alone got 937 page views on that date! (and it was not the highlighted article) Nice exposure for the article. – SJ Morg (talk) 09:26, 16 May 2016 (UTC)
Awesome! Good exposure for your article too! Valfontis (talk) 13:47, 16 May 2016 (UTC)
Too late for the Main Page, but I think you'll be happy to see these. The branch manager was nice enough to grant me access (I made an appointment for the purpose) and show me around. SJ Morg (talk) 08:25, 6 October 2016 (UTC)
Omigosh, those are great! A different look for the Poveys for sure. They're Tranporterrific! Thanks for letting me know! Valfontis (talk) 01:31, 12 October 2016 (UTC)
My pleasure, and thanks for the compliment. I didn't know what to expect, but figured they'd be different from other Povey windows. And they are. By the way, I added one photo to the Povey Brothers article (and obviously cannot justify adding more than one). Although I like the artwork a little better on the steamship and tall ship windows, I chose the sidewheeler one because I figured that motif was slightly more representative of the Pacific Northwest than the others. However, if you prefer one of the others, feel free to substitute. SJ Morg (talk) 07:46, 12 October 2016 (UTC)

Extended confirmed protection

Hello, Valfontis. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:49, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers

Hi Valfontis.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:48, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

Dryden, Oregon

Its okay that you reverted my changes, they are not really important. I was just called to change it because what is remaining of the foundation of the old post office was in my front yard when I was living in Selma, Oregon. Again, the matter of a few feet does not really make a difference. Thank You 49.213.19.184 (talk) 13:12, 10 December 2016 (UTC)
