The Plate Carrier Generation II, also referred to simply as the Plate Carrier, is a plate carrier used primarily by the US Marine Corps. It was designed to replace the SPC (Scalable Plate Carrier).

Overview edit

The Plate Carrier Generation II[1] was a vest Program of Record for the USMC initially requested in 2009. The plate carrier utilized front/back and side ESAPI plates with sewn in soft armor. The carrier included a quick-release capability which could be configured for right-hand or left-hand use. It also had an optional Yib-Yab strap which could be installed to allow better stock weld when shouldering a rifle.[2] The plate carrier improved upon two problematic issues noted in the SPC: shoulder comfort and cummerbund stability.[3] The Marine Corps planned to acquire 207,781 plate carriers for its forces.[3] Procurement requests in 2015 intended to reconfigure then reuse the soft armor panels from the IMTV (Improved Modular Tactical Vest) in the Plate Carrier Generation II.

The Plate Carrier Generation II was replaced by the Plate Carrier Generation III.[4]
