The Joker has been portrayed by Cesar Romero in the Batman television series, Jack Nicholson in Tim Burton's Batman, and Heath Ledger in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight, which posthumously earned Ledger the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Larry Storch, Frank Welker, Mark Hamill, Kevin Michael Richardson, Jeff Bennett, Steven Blum, Richard Epcar, John DiMaggio, Corey Burton and Brent Spiner have provided the voice for the character in animated form.

Live-action edit

Spider-Man 3 (2007) edit

  • Eddie Brock/Venom appears as the main antagonist in the 2007 feature film Spider-Man 3, played by Topher Grace. In the film, the symbiote, after being rejected by Peter Parker, joins with Eddie Brock after Brock, a rival freelance photographer, is exposed by Parker to have used a fake photograph, which ruins him publicly. Venom seeks an alliance with Sandman to kill Spider-Man, but is thwarted in his plans, and killed by one of the New Goblin's pumpkin bombs.

Future edit

Animation edit

Venom edit

Spider-Man (1994) edit

  • Venom and Carnage appear in Spider-Man, voiced by Hank Azaria. Eddie Brock appears as Venom at the end of "The Alien Costume: Part Two", after Spider-Man rejects the symbiote. He was defeated at the end of "The Alien Costume: Part Three". Venom's last appearance was in Season Three, where he teams up with Spider-Man and Iron Man against Carnage, Dormammu, and Baron Mordo.

Spider-Man Unlimited (1999) edit

  • In Spider-Man Unlimited, billed as a sequel to the 1994 series, Venom and Carnage have mutated into more monstrous forms, completely taking control of their hosts and being able to completely liquify at any time. They journey to Counter Earth, making contact with "The Synoptic", a group of symbiotes who had bonded with the dinosaurs of Counter Earth prior to their extinction, and were forced underground until the present day. The Synoptic symbiotes are depicted as small yellow creatures that attach themselves to their victims upper body, not covering them completely, as Venom and Carnage's do. Part of the show's plot involves the two trying to unleash The Synoptic on the planet's populace, which they do in the show's final scenes, though it ends on an unresolved cliffhanger.

Spectacular Spider-Man (2008) edit

  • Venom appears in The Spectacular Spider-Man, where he is voiced by Ben Diskin. In "The Uncertainly Principle", the symbiote arrives on Earth by stowing away on the space shuttle. After being rejected by Spider-Man, it bonds with Eddie Brock in "Intervention", and is ultimately defeated in the "Nature vs. Nurture". Venom reappeared in Season Two episodes "First Steps", "Growing Pains", and "Identity Crisis", where he attempts to expose Spider-Man's secret identity, but his plans are foiled.

Ultimate Spider-Man (2012) edit

Carnage edit

Spider-Man (1994) edit

  • Venom and Carnage appear in Spider-Man, voiced by Hank Azaria. Eddie Brock appears as Venom at the end of "The Alien Costume: Part Two", after Spider-Man rejects the symbiote. He was defeated at the end of "The Alien Costume: Part Three". Venom's last appearance was in Season Three, where he teams up with Spider-Man and Iron Man against Carnage, Dormammu, and Baron Mordo.

Video games edit

Venom edit

Venom is a playable character and boss character in a number of video games across several platforms.

Carnage edit

  • Carnage is a boss character in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man/X-Men: Arcade's Revenge, The Amazing Spider-Man: Lethal Foes, and Spider-Man and Venom: Maximum Carnage and its sequel Venom/Spider-Man: Separation Anxiety.
  • Carnage is the final boss in the 2000 Spider-Man video game, voiced by Dee Bradley Baker. He assists Doctor Octopus in a plot to establish a symbiote invasion. After Spider-Man defeats Carnage, the symbiote leaves Kasady and attaches itself to Doctor Octopus, turning him into the Monster-Ock. It destroys much of the underwater base when chasing Spider-Man. When the base explodes, the symbiote protects Doctor Octopus from harm before detaching itself from him.
  • Carnage appears in the Ultimate Spider-Man video game. This version is Peter Parker who was injected with micro-symbiotes by Adrian Toomes. It breaks free and fights Venom. After being defeated, Venom absorbs the Carnage symbiote into himself, giving him complete control over the suit.
  • Carnage is a playable character in the PSP version of Spider-Man: Friend or Foe, voiced by Fred Tatasciore. At the end of the game, Nick Fury dubs the research of the meteor shards "Project: Carnage."
  • Carnage is a playable character in Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2, voiced again by Fred Tatasciore. [citation needed] He is only available for download, and is the first downloadable content character outside of the six characters to be featured in an updated version for the PS3 and Xbox.[10] The DLC pack was at first removed but recently became available once more until December 2010.[citation needed] The DLC also includes an extra mission where the player fights Carnage after fighting several other bosses from the game.[citation needed]
  • Spider-Carnage appears as an alternate costume in the Wii version of Spider-Man: Web of Shadows.
  • Ultimate Carnage appears as a villain in the final Ultimate segment in Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions,[11] voiced again by Fred Tatasciore. Carnage (or Prisoner 900M) has been captured by S.H.I.E.L.D. and brought to the Triskelion as well as a fragment from the Tablet of Order and Chaos. S.H.I.E.L.D. was doing experiments on both and foolishly put Carnage and the fragment together to study the resulting combination. With the power of the fragment, Carnage gains the power to reanimate those he drained the life from as mindless zombies, which eventually mutate into creatures like himself. Spider-Man pursues Carnage throughout the burning ruins of the Triskelion and eventually defeats him with the help of a small amount of reprogrammed Spider-Slayers armed with flamethrowers and retrieves the final fragment, leaving the creature pinned under rubble.

Anti-Venom edit

  • Anti-Venom appears as the primary antagonist in Spider-Man: Edge of Time (2011) voiced by Steven Blum. He is brainwashed by a scientist from 2099 named Walker Sloane into killing Spider-Man. He then fuses with Dr. Octopus into the being known as Atrocity.[12]
  • Anti-Venom appears as a cameo appearance in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 as part of the free DLC mode "Heroes and Heralds" as an ability card, giving the user a 10 second attack power increase. (2011)

Other edit

  • In the arcade title Spider-Man: The Video Game, after the defeat of Dr. Doom, the final boss fight consists of a battle against an infinite number of Doom-created symbiote clones. All the clones can be killed, but there is one "prime clone" with much more life. Defeating this clone is the only way to win.
  • The symbiote family are major characters in the video game Venom/Spider-Man: Separation Anxiety.
  • Venom, Scream and Carnage all appear as bosses in Spider-Man: The Animated Series. Scream never appeared on the show, despite being in the game.
  • In the first PlayStation Spider-Man game, Doc Ock and Carnage team up to try and unleash a symbiote army onto the whole city. The spawned symbiotes are host-less clones of the Carnage symbiote and pink in color, and serve as the strongest non-boss enemies. Venom also appears in a supporting role, and his symbiote is an unlockable costume for Spider-Man. The final segment of the game features Spider-Man escaping from "Monster Ock"; the result of the Carnage symbiote melding with Doctor Octopus. The symbiote, surprisingly, ends up saving Ock from an explosion. It then deserts his body.
  • In Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, the black suit appears as an unlockable alternate costume for Spider-Man along with Scarlet Spider and Tony Stark's "Iron-Spider" costume from the Civil War storyline. The Eddie Brock version of Venom also appears as a DLC playable character in the Xbox 360 version.
  • In the Spider-Man 3 video game, along with Venom, Shriek, and Morbius appear. Shriek's powers come from a symbiote in this game which is also black in color. However the symbiote only covers half of her body. She apparently had an attraction to Spider-Man in his black suit, most likely due to her being affected with another symbiote. This is only found on the Wii/PS2 versions of the game.
  • In the Ultimate Spider-Man video game both Venom is a playable character. A version of Carnage is also present at the very end of this game. This version is Peter Parker who was injected with micro-symbiotes by Adrian Toomes. It breaks free and fights Venom. After being defeated, Venom absorbs the Carnage symbiote into himself, giving him complete control over the suit (evident of Venom gaining the iconic "white spider" logo).
  • In the video game Spider-Man: Friend or Foe, Venom is a playable character and boss. Carnage is also playable on the PSP version. The Game revolves around collecting shards from the meteor that brought the Venom Symbiote to earth. The shards are used by Mysterio in tandem with his solid light holographic technology and Nano Tech to create P.H.A.N.T.O.M.'s (short for Perpetual Holographic Avatar Nano-Tech Offensive Monsters) in a plot to take over the world. After the game is completed Nick Fury states that he plans to use Mysterio's ideal to create an army of super soldiers codenamed project: CARNAGE.
  • In Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, Venom returns to New York to send and unleash an invasion of cloned symbiotes to rule the city. During a fight with Venom, the symbiote suddenly reproduces and the spawn bonds with Spider-Man creating a replica of the Black Suit, but with considerably more Carnage-like abilities such as projecting bladed tentacles. Over the course of the game, Venom creates symbiote 'seed-pods' in various locations around the city which absorb passing civilians and infect them with various types of symbiote ranging from Snatcher Symbiotes (the small black Symbiotes that drag unsuspecting victims to the 'seed-pods'), Zombie Symbiotes (the weak white Symbiotes, who slightly resemble Anti-Venom), Berserker Symbiotes (the red shiny Symbiotes), Grappler Symbiotes (black and red versions of the Berserkers), and Slasher Symbiotes (the white and pink Symbiotes). The Symbiotes even manage to infect Electro, Vulture, Black Cat and Wolverine. Symbiote-Electro and Symbiote-Vulture go on to spawn other symbiotes with powers similar to their hosts resulting in Electrolings and Vulturelings. All are eventually defeated by Spider-Man and the symbiotes are separated from them.
  • In Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2, the Mac Gargan version of Venom is part of the story and is playable after a certain point. Carnage is available via a DLC.
  • In Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, Ultimate Spider-Man in his symbiote suit is a playable character, Madame Web having restored the black suit as it provides this world's Peter Parker with additional abilities that he will require to succeed in his mission while she uses her psychic abilities to prevent the suit attempting to take over his mind though it does affect his temper. Also, Ultimate Carnage appears as the final boss in the Ultimate levels here granted the ability to reanimate it's victims into symbiotic zombie-like creatures thanks to the powers of a fragment of the Tablet of Order and Chaos.
  • In The Amazing Spider-Man video game, Mac Gargan as Scorpion (appearing much like a scorpion-human hybrid) will appear as a villain based on the 2012 The Amazing Spider-Man film reboot. In his bio, it states that he along with others were a result of OsCorp using Curt Connors' cross-species research to make super-humans. It is also stated that a OsCorp physicist, Otto Octavius made Scorpion who he was including a mix of a "black goo". It is also stated that Scorpion will be an amalgamation of Scorpion Ultimate Spider Slayer and Venom and is referred to by Octavius as MAC (short for 'My Astonishing Creation). [13][14] The Spider-Man 3 version of the black symbiote suit, as well as a black version of the new Amazing Spider-Man suit, are unlockable alternate costumes. [15]
