Downside is a hamlet in the English county of Surrey, situated outside the town of Cobham and near the village of Downside.

History edit

The hamlet appears on Cary's 1786 map of the area, where it is referred to as 'Hatch Fold'.

Geography edit

Hatchford is situated on the raised ground above the flood plain of the River Mole, on the road between Cobham and Ockham. The hamlet is now bisected by the M25 motorway.

Landmarks edit

One of the oldest houses in the hamlet is Pointers (also Poynters), an 18th century manor house on the hillside overlooking the River Mole. Of similar age is Cold Norton Farm, also called. More recent is Hatchford Park, a large Victorian house. Next to Hatchford Park is Hatchford Graveyard; the church itself was demolished in the 20th century.

Where the motorway cuts through the hamlet is Brickfield copse, named after early brickworks located there.
