The Amazing Race is a reality game show in which teams of two race around the world against other teams, with the first-place team winning $1,000,000 (U.S.), $100,000 (Asia), A$250,000 (Australia), R$500,000 (Brazil), A World Tour (China Rush), 1,000,000 (Israel), 300,000,000 (Vietnam), US$250,000 (Latin America), 500,000 kr and a Subaru XV for each team member (Norway). There is a total of 8 international versions of the show: The Amazing Race Australia, The Amazing Race Asia, The Amazing Race: A Corrida Milionária, The Amazing Race: China Rush, HaMerotz LaMillion (המירוץ למיליון), The Amazing Race Norge, The Amazing Race Vietnam: Cuộc Đua Kỳ Thú 2012, The Amazing Race en Discovery Channel/The Amazing Race Latinoaméricawith The Amazing Race France and The Amazing Race Philippines coming soon.

Most race routes in The Amazing Race circumnavigate the globe, starting from one United States city and ending in another. Two exceptions include The Amazing Race 7 where the route was a great circle, crossing through Argentina, South Africa, and India before returning westward; and The Amazing Race 8, the Family Edition of the show, which stayed entirely within North America.

In Saint Petersburg, Russia, inseason 17 at the roadblock, teams played gorodki at the Peter and Paul Fortress.
 
In season 18, teams traveled to the Matterhorn where they participated in mountain rescue-themed Detour tasks.

In season 7, before heading to Botswana, teams fed a lion at the Rhino & Lion Game Reserve in Krugersdorp, South Africa.
 
At the roadblcok in season 12, in Burkina Faso, one team member had to milk a Dromedary camel and then drink the milk.
 
In season 16, in Seychelles,one of the Detour tasks required teams to use a banana to lure a 100-year-old Aldabra Giant Tortoise across a marked course.
 
In season 20, at Tanzania's Ngorongoro Crater, teams participated in Detour tasks based on the everyday lives of the local Maasai people.

Burj Al Arab in Dubai was visited back in season 5, however Dubai was later visited in season 15.
 
Back in season 10, Meridian Gate in Forbidden City was the location of the race's first ever mid-leg elimination.
 
In season 13, for the roadblock in New Delhi, one team member had to paint an environmentally friendly natural gas-powered tuktuk green.
 
In season 16, the Fast Forward task took place in Singapore at the Singapore Flyer, the tallest Ferris wheel in the world.

Teams visited the Sydney Harbour Bridge, where they climbed to its summit to receive their next clue in the second season.
 
In the second season, one of the detour choices was to bungee jump 450 feet off the Nevis Highwire Platform.
 
Ellis Beach near Cairns in Queenland was the Pit Stop for one of the leg's in season 4.
 
Back in season 5, one team member rode in a Zorb down a hill in New Zealand before receiving the next clue.
 
In season 18, teams visited Oceanworld Manly in Sydney, where one team member did the Shark Dive Extreme: a scuba dive in the aquarium's shark tank.
As of the twentieth season, The Amazing Race has visited 82 different countries.
