There are three templates to make it easy to provide links to the Federal Communications Commission database entries on FM band, AM band, and television stations in the United States. They are simply {{FMQ}}, {{AMQ}}, and {{TVQ}} respectively (or, if you're lazy or don't have a shift key, {{fmq}}, {{amq}}, and {{tvq}}). Each one takes a single argument. For example, {{fmq|KABC}} will result in the following text:

KABC in the FCC FM station database

Note that stations with three-letter callsigns (WIS, WGN, etc.) will probably produce multiple results instead of a single station. Occasionally, a four-letter station will return multiple stations, so for the most specific results, include the "-FM" or "-TV" (or "-LP", "-CA", etc.) suffix if it exists (this will fail if such a suffix does not exist for the specific station). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mulad (talkcontribs) 05:03, 18 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

Should use FIN, not call

edit

This template should use the Facility ID Number (FIN), which is constant, and not the callsign which can be changed on a day's notice for $65. This would also eliminate the problem with ambiguous partial callsigns. 121a0012 22:42, 15 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

To be able to link directly to the station's FCC coverage map, it looks like "CDBS Application ID No." and not merely the facility ID would be needed. For instance, WKTV is CDBS app #304051. —Preceding unsigned comment added by I613 (talkcontribs) 02:05, 22 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

{{edit protected}} WRPO-LP is no longer affilliated with WDEQ-FM owned by the Riverside Local Board of Eduacation. Also the article for WMHO no longer exists...therefore I am asking you to delete any and all mention of WDEQ-FM and WMHO.

I am a volunteer for WRPO-LP and I composed the original article for this station. Since earlier this year I have tried unsucessfully on several occasions to delete the above mentions without success and the article reverted back to is previous state. Why are you doing this???

On behalf of Gene Kirby station manager and programmer of WRPO-LP I am asking you to not only make the deletions I have asked for in the above paragraph but also allow me (as the composer of this article) to make any future additions or deletions if neccessary as requested to me by Gene Kirby.

editprotect - added 2nd parameter for URL text

edit

I added a 2nd parameter to over-ride the URL text on TVQ, AMQ, and FMQ/sandbox, as well as creating /doc files for each template.

Please copy Template:FMQ/sandbox (revision) into {{FMQ}}.

The main purpose of this was so I can use a shortened form of {{TVQ}} in {{Infobox broadcast}}. The changes to AMQ and FMQ are for the sake of consistency. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 06:42, 9 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Inconsistent protection for similar templates

edit

{{FMQ}}, {{AMQ}}, and {{TVQ}} are basically clones of each other, have similar usages, and are all transcluded into thousands of articles. Yet they do not have the same protection level.

There are other TV and radio templates that are or soon will be translcuded into thousands of articles.

I recommend syncing up of the protection for the 3 templates above. As two of them have been at "semi-protect" for years without much trouble, that seems to be a good place to start. If full protection is required for one, it is probably required for all 3.

I also recommend a bot or external tool identify and automatically flag for attention un-protected template pages that are widely transcluded. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 20:40, 9 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

The Federal Communications Commission has redesigned its website, and the link as currently formatted now generates a 404 Not Found error. The FM Query is now on transition.fcc.gov and not on www.fcc.gov. The link should be updated to match this revision of the template's sandbox, which reflects the current link. (This will also bring {{FMQ}} back in line with {{AMQ}} and {{TVQ}}, as I have already applied the comparable changes to those templates. The AMQ and TVQ templates still have different protection levels from FMQ.) WCQuidditch 03:39, 10 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Remove "Query" label

edit

Hello, I think that the word "Query" should be removed form the link's label. --167.58.214.1 (talk) 17:12, 5 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Template-protected edit request on 1 July 2020

edit

I'd like to request that the text of the template be tweaked to match the style used in many other external link templates, wherein only the page name is linked, and the site name appears after the link. This would be something like: [https://... {{{1}}}] in the [[Federal Communications Commission|FCC]]'s FM station database. I think this makes the link look a bit cleaner, and it also allows us to link to the Federal Communications Commission article to provide additional context. Here's what the new code would look like

[https://transition.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/fmq?call={{{1}}} {{{2|{{{1}}}}}}] in the [[Federal Communications Commission|FCC]]'s FM station database<noinclude>
{{subst:#ifexist:{{subst:#invoke:string|replace|{{subst:FULLPAGENAME}}|/sandbox$|plain=false}}/doc|{{{{subst:void}}documentation}}}}
</noinclude>

And here's how that would look in practice:

Code Output
{{FMQ|WABC}} WABC in the FCC's FM station database
{{FMQ|WABC|Custom text}} Custom text in the FCC's FM station database

@Izno: I also think this was desired for AMQ and TVQ and {{AM station data}}. They appear a lot together. I have a plan to sunset TVQ because it is no longer being kept up to date (the radio ones are fine). Also consider changes in most of the other members of Category:Radio external link templates. Raymie (tc) 21:16, 3 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Raymie: I don't see that intent at all; the intent I do see concerns many other external link templates. If someone (you or IagoQnsi) wants to submit edit requests for the ones you're calling out, I'm sure I or another can take care of those. --Izno (talk) 22:49, 3 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Apply the above change to these templates: {{LPL}}, {{AMQ}}, {{AML}}, {{AMARB}}, {{FMXL}}, {{RecnetCanada}}, {{TVQ}}. Raymie (tc) 01:50, 4 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Replace {{AMQ}}, {{FMQ}}, {{TVQ}} and {{AMARB}} with their sandbox versions to make formatting more consistent with the above FMQ change and to break a bug introduced into FMQ pertaining to the display of custom links (as currently seen at Vermont Public Radio).
