Republic of China (Taiwan) edit

As a reminder, ((editprotected)) with curly braces rather than parentheses is the way to get a fully protected page edited.

There needs to be a way to list "Republic of China (Taiwan)". Right now the choices are "Taiwan" or "Republic of China" however in many non-historical uses it would offend some to see "Taiwan" listed as a country or state, but listing "Republic of China" will confuse many people who don't know Taiwan by that name and will think the PRC is being described. Readin (talk) 14:08, 11 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I completely agree. While "Republic of China" remains its formal name, "Republic of China (Taiwan)" is often used to clarify any misconceptions. The alliance (talk) 02:50, 7 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Jack vs ensign edit

Change

flag alias-naval = Naval Jack of the Republic of China.svg

to

flag alias-naval = Flag of the Republic of China.svg

Or remove it completely

Per, Maritime flag, a naval jack is not a naval ensign. ROC's ensign is the same as the national flag and this template should not use the naval jack in the "flag alias-naval" field. --Dual Freq (talk) 02:05, 26 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Done, makes sense. If an argument can be made to reverse this change, just repost the editprotected template along with an explanation. Huntster (t@c) 09:12, 26 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Civil Ensign edit

Can the template be amended to allow the Civil Ensign used by merchant ships to be coded with an alias? Mjroots (talk) 18:07, 8 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Edit request edit

The country links here, and those on {{country data Taiwan}} should probably direct to Taiwan now since "Republic of China" was moved.--Tærkast (Discuss) 21:43, 9 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

The 1912 one shouldn't, it should link to Beiyang Government. It might be worth creating a new pre-1949 template too, linking to Republic of China (1912–1949). The others should go to Taiwan though, I agree.
Meanwhile, this page should probably be merged with Template:Country data Taiwan, so everything's together in one spot. CMD (talk) 17:17, 14 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Please could you put any changes required in the template sandbox and do the same for any other templates that need changing, to facilitate making the edit. At the moment it's not clear exactly what needs to be changed where, so I'll deactivate the request for now but feel free to reactivate once that sandbox versions are ready. Wrong link for historic ROC edit

The 1912 and 1912–1949 should link to Republic of China (1912–1949) instead of Taiwan at present. GotR Talk 03:48, 11 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Not done: It is not clear how to do this, if it is even possible with the current uses of this template. Please create a sandbox page with the requested change, and testcases to illustrate that it functions correctly. Anomie 18:07, 14 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
Someone more competent should answer this request. GotR Talk 00:24, 15 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
Anomie is competent, and I agree:   Not done: please be more specific about what needs to be changed. The problem is that the request is vague; it's also not supported by consensus. Also, if it were a clear and precise request, there has been no apparent attempt to test the proposed change, since neither sandbox nor testcases exist. Please see Wikipedia:Template sandbox and test cases, also the advice at Template:Edit protected, also at Wikipedia:Edit requests. --Redrose64 (talk) 10:17, 15 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
It is not possible to make this template do what you want; that's why Template:Country data Republic of China (1912–1949) was created. Use that. — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 17:26, 15 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Remove 1912 alias edit

Due to the inflexibility of the template in terms of linking to a primary article and inaccuracy (as alluded to above by myself and Chipmunkdavis) of linking any mainland governments to [[Taiwan]], please drop the 1912 Beiyang Government alias by:

  1. Deleting | flag alias-1912 = Flag of the Republic of China 1912-1928.svg
  2. Deleting | var1 = 1912
  3. Changing | var2 = civil to | var1 = civil (this should be obvious)

GotR Talk 20:22, 17 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Not yet. This can only be done after every transclusion of this template has changed to use Template:Country data Republic of China (1912–1949) with that flag variant. After that work has completed, this proposed change can be made. — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 00:35, 18 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
Done I have verified that all main space transclusions of this template that used the 1912 variant have now been updated to use the 1912–1949 template. (Only some talk page archives and user sandboxes still use it.) On a related note, but not specific to the 1912 flag, is that we have hundreds of pages that use this template for the 1928-1949 time period (with the current flag image) and those should also be updated to use Template:Country data Republic of China (1912–1949) so that they don't link to the article now at Taiwan. — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 02:14, 21 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Republic of China vs Taiwan edit

Now that we have a new Republic of China article, shouldn't this point there instead of Taiwan. Emmette Hernandez Coleman (talk) 20:27, 21 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hold that off for now, there seems to be some dispute over weather that article should exist. Emmette Hernandez Coleman (talk) 20:51, 21 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Why does this template exist? edit

Is there a legitimate reason to maintain both Template:Country data Republic of China and Template:Country data Taiwan separately? As far as I can see, the only difference between the two is the "shortname alias" (aka the display name) and some tennis aliases which appear to be pointing to the incorrect article. It would seem more sensible to make this a redirect to the Taiwan template, so that the display name can be still specified by users but all other data centralized, as is done with Template:Country data People's Republic of China ({{flag|People's Republic of China}} =   People's Republic of China) for example. TDL (talk) 00:47, 15 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

  • I agree this template should be redirected, though that will change the displayed name in articles using the ROC shortname alias. I can find 27 pages that use {{flagcountry|Republic of China}} (excluding five search results that have |name= set) and six using {{flagcountry|ROC}}, so these articles will need either |name=Republic of China added or {{flag}} used instead. No pages seem to use the Republic of China template with any other flag template that uses shortname aliases, except for the military templates (for which the Taiwan template already has "Republic of China" link and name aliases). SiBr4 (talk) 16:40, 18 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
  • Should be merged into Taiwan. If somebody wants to talk about the pre-1949 ROC, then there's a template for that. – Illegitimate Barrister (talkcontribs), 21:51, 15 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Template-protected edit request on 18 September 2016 edit

Please add the {{{age|}}} parameter to the football, basketball and rugby aliases (after the word "national"). Thanks, Maiō T. (talk) 22:09, 18 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Not done: This template is for displaying the correct flag for a country. Age is irrelevant. You'll need to provide a compelling reason, discussion and consensus for this change. Cabayi (talk) 06:14, 19 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
  Done. (See Taiwan.) SiBr4 (talk) 12:14, 19 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Flag change edit

File:Flag of the Republic of China (2).svg Can you change the main flag from the existing one to the new one? on the top? Thanks. Wrestlingring (talk) 23:20, 6 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Template-protected edit request on 21 February 2020 edit

Please fix the "mw" parameter in link alias-basketball to {{{mw|men's}}} because the article name is Chinese Taipei men's national basketball team. Thanks, Maiō T. (talk) 21:15, 21 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
