2019 International Championship (snooker)
- ... that at the 2019 International Championship snooker event, Judd Trump regained the world number one position, for the first time in six years? Source: http://www.worldsnooker.com/sublime-trump-claims-international-title/
Created by Lee Vilenski (talk). Self-nominated at 22:05, 11 August 2019 (UTC).
- Could a better hook be proposed here? Honestly the hook doesn't really appeal to non-snooker fans, or to people who don't know who Judd Trump is. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 04:10, 15 August 2019 (UTC)
- How about:
- ALT1: ... at the 2019 International Championship snooker tournament, champion Judd Trump made 12 century breaks, three times as many as any other player?"Centuries". World Snooker. 11 August 2019. Archived from the original on 11 August 2019. Retrieved 11 August 2019. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 11:44, 15 August 2019 (UTC)
- It sounds better, but it still feels a bit too niche considering its dependence on the term "century break", which probably isn't familiar to the average reader. Reading through the article again, I found a quote saying
The win was the first time a reigning world champion won the first championship that they had competed in after the event
. Would a hook based on that have broader appeal? Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 23:13, 15 August 2019 (UTC)- Sure, but it's only since 2008 (when Ronnie O'Sullivan did exactly the same thing):

- ALT2: ...World Snooker Champion Judd Trump won the 2019 International Championship, the next event that they had competed in, the first time a world champion had done so since 2008? http://www.livesnooker.com/category/major-ranking-events/trump-storms-to-international-championship-glory-20190811/
- Feels pretty longwinded, but not sure how to shorten. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 08:16, 16 August 2019 (UTC)
- It has potential, but yeah I think there's a better way to word this. @Toreightyone and SounderBruce: Any ideas on how to reword ALT2? Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 03:29, 19 August 2019 (UTC)
- I'll take a shot at it: ... that Judd Trump became the first world snooker champion to win back-to-back events since 2008 by winning the International Championship?
- Alternatively: ... that by winning the World Snooker Championship and International Championship, Judd Trump became the first world champion to win back-to-back events since 2008? SounderBruce 06:09, 19 August 2019 (UTC)
- I suppose both work, the issue here is that there's no mention of 2019 in either suggestion. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 09:23, 19 August 2019 (UTC)
- How about this: ... that in 2019, Judd Trump became the first to win both the World Snooker Championship and the International Championship, back-to-back, since 2008? --Toreightyone (talk) 11:50, 19 August 2019 (UTC)
- Sounder bruces was fine, the last one isn't accurate, and not the point being made. The international championship wasn't the first event of the season (The 2019 Riga Masters was, but Trump didn't play), and there was no international championship in 2008. O'Sullivan won the 2008 Northern Ireland Trophy, which was the first time he had played since winning the world title. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 12:42, 19 August 2019 (UTC)
- Seems our best option now would be to go with Bruce's suggestion (though I'd suggest mentioning 2019 somewhere in the hooks). Once Lee provides a QPQ I will start doing the full review. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 03:56, 20 August 2019 (UTC)

Narutolovehinata5 QPQ done. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 07:19, 20 August 2019 (UTC)
- While I like SounderBruce's suggestion the best, the article doesn't seem to mention the "first back-to-back winner since 2008" thing, and as far as I can tell, isn't in the Livesnooker source either. Was the fact he suggested accurate, or not? Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 04:12, 30 August 2019 (UTC)
- The ALT2 I proposed is right, as it wasn't back-to-back events, but was the next one they competed in. From the source:
The 29-year-old becomes the first player to win their first tournament as World Champion since Ronnie O'Sullivan back in 2008.
Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 09:18, 5 September 2019 (UTC)- Noted, though that still doesn't resolve the wording clarity issue. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 14:36, 5 September 2019 (UTC)

- Or, :ALT3a: ... Judd Trump was first player to win their first tournament as World Champion since 2008 by winning the 2019 International Championship? Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 12:41, 8 September 2019 (UTC)
- @Lee Vilenski: ALT3a reads better, but the more this is being discussed, the more I wonder if a different hook fact could be suggested, as I'm not sure if it's possible to write a hook based on this that has snappier wording. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 00:30, 9 September 2019 (UTC)
- Hi Narutolovehinata5, I think it'll probably have to be archived. I've searched for a lot, and it just doesn't seem like there is much more to make a hook from. Thanks for your dilligence in looking at this, but I'll close this one. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 07:11, 9 September 2019 (UTC)
