Background for future article on CE in the Gambia

edit

CE movement in the Gambia is young but very vibrant; it was started in the country by a Methodist Irish missionary by the name of Marion Nelson in a small village in the western part of the country. Despite her efforts to help young people to understand Christ more and to become productive to their individual churches the movement could not survived after she left the village.CEYU in the Gambia mainly involve young people from different denominations namely Evangelical Church of The Gambia, the Presbyterians, Mennonite and a handful of few youths from the Catholic Charismatic Renewal.

But her vision did not die as the word of the Bible cannot die; her vision was ignited by one of those young people she thought about the principles of CE. In recent years the movement was revived by few young Gambians who have heart for young people and to help churches to mould the younger generation for the service of the Lord.

The movement continued to meet on prayer meetings for the past six (6) years and organizing youth retreats during Christmas and Easter. In 2007 the movement was officially registered with the government of the Gambia under the name Christian Endeavour Youth Unlimited, this was deem necessary as a movement that involve different denominations there has to be some people who could be held accountable to the movement for any eventuality.

Despite denominational and cultural differences within the CEYU Gambia, the movement try to teach only Bible noting less nothing more, doctrinal teaching is not encouraged when CEYU members are together. This has enabled the movement as an interdenominational ministry to achieve a lot among young people. This method of teaching the Bible cut across the board because Christ name accommodate all denominations as long as they are genuine followers of Him.

Every last Friday of the month youths from the urban area meet for a night vigil here again the leadership of the endeavourers demonstrate interdenominational ministry approach, that is different speaker from different denominations who are been represented at the gathering are invited to speak to the youths. And the vigil rotates from one denominational church to another denominational church.

The article reads almost like something promotional, certainly not objective: "The youth were shown that the church cared for young people... began as a small group of eager youth... took up many causes without apology... The admirable Clark... is considered the father of modern day youth ministry [probably true, but needs citation]... As a fresh brand of the movement, Endeavor is experiencing incredible results..." etc. - Jmabel | Talk 06:03, 28 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

No There is little to nothing in the Christian Endeavor Society article that would enhance the Young People's Society of Christian Endeavour article. At this date the CES article is merely a list of factoids that CES members in India might find useful.

Reverting to original redirect

OK, so this article was originally a sensible direct I placed in 2009. Somewhere after it was hijacked for an article about some group at Hebert College in Tamil Nadu. At some point after this, it was made a redirect to Bishop Heber College. All poorly handled. I don't see it as a good redirect to Heber – the group can be covered there. Or if necessary let's put a hatnote on the target of the redirect. --LilHelpa (talk) 23:46, 13 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
