Neutrality

edit

The neutrality of this article is disputed because of the undue weight given to issues of controversy without proper citations indicating that the controversies have had the indicated impact. To read this article, one would expect that the entire population of the Diocese of Rockville Centre would be up in arms calling for Murphy's ouster, yet we do not see any evidence that such is the case. To be sure, he appears to have won some enemies from his actions, the weight of the controversies appears out of proportion, and appears to be the result of editors (an editor?) with an axe to grind. I'm in the Diocese of Rockville Centre and can assure you that the entire congragation is livid.AcuteInsight (talk) 19:32, 6 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure to which congregation this contributor is referring, but the diocese as a whole is hardly up in arms. If I had to guess, I'd say LI Catholics are generally satisfied and appreciative of the bishop's efforts. Like other I-95 bishops – especially Cardinals Dolan, O'Malley and O'Brien and Bishop Chaput – Bishop Murphy has faced daunting issues, such as working to restore faith in the episcopate as the paedophilia scandal broadened, and responding to socioeconomic and demographic shifts all over the Northeast. This last has resulted in painful and ugly scenes at venerable churches and schools that could no longer sustain themselves. Understatement alert: these are rough waters: I can't imagine piloting a diocese in these seas without getting my share of complaints. That said, I don't see livid.
