Minor problems edit

  • When naming and article like this use lower case in the brackets: [William Joy (master mason)]. Notice that the menu gives you the facility to move the article. You need to move it to the new name, and then go around to Wells and Exeter Cathedrals etc and fix the links to conform with the new name.
  • William Joy didn't "create" the choir at Wells Cathedral. He extended it by the three eastern bays, maintaining the original form of the arcades. That whole sentence is very complex and needs to be divided into at least two sentences.
  • "Thomas Witney" is the usual form, rather than "Thomas of Witney".
  • Decorated Gothic takes two capital letters. It needs to link to [English Gothic architecture#Decorated Gothic|Decorated Gothic] (with double brackets).
  • "However the west front was Joy's design, although it was unfinished when work stopped in 1348, halted by the black death."
By using the words "However" and "although", you really play down the importance of this major work. Make it into two sentences, with the first one being a clear statement, because he was a great architect, not just an adjunct to Witney. Also, I believe it is the screen with sculpture across the front, rather than the entire west front, that is his work.
  • Importantly: The spire of Salisbury Cathedral is firmly attributed to Richard Farleigh (1332-63). I have never read that it was the work of William Joy. To say "possibly the tower and spire of Salisbury" is to casually toss off a statement of enormous impact. It's like saying that possibly someone other than Christopher Wren built St Paul's Cathedral.
You can't make such a significant statement as if it was of minor importance. If someone has a theory that this is the case, then you need to present it as a theory and cite the name of the person and their reasons.
  • My next advice is that since this is a brand new article, it is eligible to be put up as a "Did You Know" on the Main Page of Wikipedia.
I could nominate it. You will have to chose a single interesting and properly referenced fact e.g.:
DYK.....that William Joy saved the tower of Wells Cathedral from imminent collapse?
This would be a good thing to do as the Wells Cathedral article is currently under the process of review as a Featured Article.

  • Name fixed
  • Thomas Witney fixed
  • Decorated Gothic fixed
  • Exeter information extended
  • I've deleted the Salisbury reference, the book I got that from is quite vague on the information
  • Yes please on the "Did You Know" section, I'll extend the Wells section as well
