Why is this article titled "William E. Bell"? edit

Obviously, this guy and the guy at William Bell (author) are the same person. I was about to merge and redirect from that title to this one, when I realized something: there seem to be no references to this guy as "William E. Bell" outside of this article. Even this article doesn't know what the "E" is supposed to stand for. It therefore appears that William Bell (author) is the correct title, but now I'm not sure how to handle moving the article to that title, since there's an article there already but this one is clearly in better shape. But it's still a mystery where the "E." came from in the first place; am I missing anything? Propaniac (talk) 16:30, 12 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

To be honest I can't even remember creating this page. It was one of a series of Canadian author bios I wrote several years ago based on information on a list on the Canada Council site. My guess is they would have used 'E' on that page, which is why it is here. - SimonP (talk) 16:59, 12 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Take info from one page and add it to the other, with a source note in the talk page. Then when the merge is otherwise done place {{db-move|<source article>}} on the target article's page and an admin will do the delete & move operation. see also WP:MERGE DES (talk) 05:17, 15 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the advice. At Wikipedia:How to fix cut-and-paste moves, it seems to suggest that the db-histmerge template should be used instead of db-move; do you know that one is better than the other? Propaniac (talk) 16:37, 15 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
You may be correct that in this case{{db-histmerge}} (which is intended for the case where someone has already done a cut&paste move but the history needs to be merged) would work better than {{db-move}} (which is most often used when switching a page with a redir to that page, IME). With an alert admin, either should work. In either case I suggest leaving a note on the target talk page explaining in more detail what is going on. This will help guide the admin, and will also preserve the history of the two pages for the future. But this seems to be the case discussed in the section Wikipedia:How to fix cut-and-paste moves#Parallel versions, in which case it may be better to use the {{Copied}} template and not perform a history merge. If no history merge is wanted, than the {{db-move}} or the more general {{db-g6}} which has a "rationale" parameter in which a reason can be supplied, or which can point to a more extensive explanation on a talk page. If William Bell (author) is merged with this page (or even if it isn't) it should be noted that the reference in that article to Mr. Bell living with his three children Dylan, Megan and Brendan is likely outdated. I attended Orillia District Collegiate and Vocational Institute with Dylan and Megan, and knew them both reasonably well(Mr.Bell was also my English and homeroom teacher one year. They are both in their late 30's now, and unlikely to be living at home. Dylan is also a musician, composer and producer of some acclaim--a career that would be difficult to pursue from a room in your father's house in Orillia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.70.224.178 (talk) 02:27, 26 July 2011 (UTC) Sorry, forgot to sign that one. 70.70.224.178 (talk) 02:31, 26 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
