Authorship

I have made a minor alteration regarding the authorship of the heretical pamphlets attributed to Barlow. The text as it stood stated "Scholarship now attributes these works, hostile to Wolsey, from 1528–9, to a Franciscan" and linked to the DNB article on Jerome Barlow. That article does not make anything like so certain a claim. It states that "It is conceivable that it was Jerome and not William who wrote an anti-protestant work called the Lutheran Factions, and recanted to Henry VIII in 1533. It is also conceivable that William, not Jerome, participated in the production of Rede me, since the recantation refers to ‘the Treatyse of the Buryall of the Masse’ (BL, Cotton MS Cleo E IV, fol. 121). Scholarship is divided on these questions."

The current DNB article on William Barlow states that "There exists a letter of recantation admitting responsibility for these works, signed by a William Barlo, and written in a hand with many similarities to that of William Barlow the bishop. The latter was certainly the author of A Dialogue of … these Lutheran Factions and Many of their Abuses (1531)". Obviously this is not an area of certainty. I hope the revision makes that clear and is closer to the source reference. Jellyandjocko (talk) 15:12, 30 July 2014 (UTC)

Committed to the tower

The Chronicle of the Greyfriars of London has him committed to the tower the day after Thomas Cranmer was in 1553:

[1553] the xviiii day of September was the byshoppe of Cauntorbery comyttyd unto the tower from the sterrechamber, Thomas Creme by hys name; and the xv. day was comytted also unto the tower the byshopp of Bath [William] Barlowe by name.
