godfather of crime?

edit

Im pretty sure he calls himself the 'godfather of Grime' not 'crime' in that he believes he helped start the genre. Source listen to any of his songs he repeats it enough times. Ive just checked the gaurdian source and it sais Grime also this needs to be changed and is possibly slander

Wiley sounds like a total muppet to be fair.

Fair use rationale for Image:Roll Deep.jpg

edit

Image:Roll Deep.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 07:37, 6 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Just seen the video for this in You Tube, the one with Sir Paul McCartney and Heather Mills, very funny. Can we link to it in the article? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.143.70.75 (talk) 07:02, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Austrailia Garage?

edit

Is the spelling of the genre Austrailia Garage correct, or should it be Australia Garage? -- KathrynLybarger (talk) 05:00, 10 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Roots from India? I've listened to Wiley for almost 10 years and never have I heard he has roots from India. If we're talking relative-wise, that is. Sources?? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.165.69.90 (talk) 01:08, 6 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Automated Peer Review

edit

The following suggestions were generated by a semi-automatic javascript program, and might not be applicable for the article in question.

  • Please expand the lead to conform with guidelines at Wikipedia:Lead. The article should have an appropriate number of paragraphs as is shown on WP:LEAD, and should adequately summarize the article.[?]
  • Watch for redundancies that make the article too wordy instead of being crisp and concise. (You may wish to try Tony1's redundancy exercises.)
    • Vague terms of size often are unnecessary and redundant - “some”, “a variety/number/majority of”, “several”, “a few”, “many”, “any”, and “all”. For example, “All pigs are pink, so we thought of a number of ways to turn them green.”
  • Please ensure that the article has gone through a thorough copyediting so that it exemplifies some of Wikipedia's best work. See also User:Tony1/How to satisfy Criterion 1a.[?]

Racism - Jay Sean Incident

edit

It seems to me that this section is somewhat wanting in terms of grammar, neutrality and citation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.235.50.183 (talk) 06:39, 9 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Question

edit

Can: "Wiley (rapper) be moved to "Wiley (MC), because it says Wiley is an English grime MC?

Corbyn tweets

edit

The section about his anti-Semitic tweets currently mentions how tweets from Jeremy Corbyn's twitter account thanking Wiley for his political support were deleted afterwards. I think this isn't relevant and should be removed. Public figures have been known to delete tweets, but where else does this get mentioned on wikipedia? This article isn't even about Corbyn. This inclusion seems like a politically motivated attempt to suggest guilt by association. 80.43.243.112 (talk) 21:03, 27 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Terms of Use

edit

The article currently says he breached Facebook’s ‘terms of conduct and abuse’. This is inaccurate as per the statement made by Facebook, and also Facebook does not have ‘terms of abuse’ - it has terms of use which themselves can be ‘abused’, but not ‘terms of abuse’ which can be broken. Facebook’s statement states he was deleted due to ‘repeated violations’ of their terms of conduct; not ‘abuse’ - which is an inflammatory word not stated by Facebook which has no place in an encyclopaedic entry of this nature. Cbdrolex (talk) 13:25, 29 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Can this be changed to accurately represent Facebook’a statement in neutral language? Cbdrolex (talk) 13:26, 29 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Unbalanced lead

edit

Let's be clear: Wiley is mainly famous as a racist conspiracy theorist, not as a musician. I realise this might be different in the UK, but that doesn't change things. As a musician who has rarely if ever made it into the charts throughout the world, Wiley is not someone most of us outside the UK had ever heard of before last week. Perhaps a few mentions in media if grime ever was discussed, but certainly no big news. In sharp contrast, his antisemitic outbursts have made headlines in many countries and are the reason many of us non-British first heard of Wiley. As per WP policy, the article and the lead should reflect this. The current lead, making no reference at all to the main reason he's known, would need to substantially rewritten to give as much prominence to his main claim to fame as to his music. Jeppiz (talk) 07:35, 30 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Let's be clear - no. Wiley is a musician, and has been since 1996. The fact that he has come to prominence in the last week for racially charged statements does not suddenly change his entire status or career. I agree that an additional comment in the lede may be appropriate, but an insistence that this is "his main claim to fame" is frankly ridiculous and similar to saying we should strip out all that book nonsense from the J. K. Rowling article and just say she's transphobic, because that's what people are talking about right now. Chaheel Riens (talk) 08:04, 30 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
I see your point although the comparison with J.K. Rowling might not be entirely really accurate. She is mainly famous as the author of Harry Potter. It's a safe bet far more people are aware of Harry Potter than the current trans-row, and that we can find much more coverage in RS sources around the world for her authorship of Harry Potter. That's not the case for Wiley, for whom worldwide coverage in RS media is dominated by the current row. Having said that, I do agree it would be equally wrong to make it dominate the lead. I'd recommend a sentence in the first paragraph of the lead, and a paragraph at the end of the lead. Jeppiz (talk) 09:22, 30 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Rowling wasn't intended to be accurate, in fact quite the opposite - it was a facetious comment to highlight the spectre and danger of WP:RECENT. Wiley is a musician who holds controversial opinions, and that's how the article and lede should show him. Chaheel Riens (talk) 10:00, 30 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Agreed. However Wiley's antisemitism is significant enough to be included in the lead. A single sentence at the end of the last para perhaps?Mr Miles (talk) 10:08, 3 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

There should be *some mention* of Wiley's antisemitism in the lede. It is one of the defining features of his public life. Also "allegations" should be removed from the "allegations of antisemitism". It isn't a court case, it is as well-sourced and factual as anyone is going to get. FerranValls (talk) 22:23, 24 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
