- ... that the Walter Bean Grand River Trail was named after Walter Bean, who created the idea of a continuous trail through the Waterloo Region?
- ALT1:... that a southern section of the Walter Bean Grand River Trail in Waterloo Region, is part of the Trans Canada Trail?

- But ALT0 and ALT1 are both kind of dull. To me, the most interesting thing in the article was the trail having signs with QR codes leading to poems and songs. Maybe make a hook out of that?
- Also: For 99 percent of the total was fundraised by September 2006., sentences should not begin with numerals, and this doesn't explain how the ongoing maintenance costs of the trail are funded. And is there a second image available, that would show the trail itself (not just a picnic table)? Wasted Time R (talk) 00:55, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Wasted Time R! I'm obviously biased but I find ALT1 pretty interesting. I do like this hook though:
- ALT2:... that QR codes linking to songs and poems were implemented on the Walter Bean Grand River Trail in Waterloo, Ontario? (source)
- The article issues you brought up have been fixed. I can take a picture in the next few days, thanks for reminding me. Mcguy15 (talk, contribs) 02:48, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- Is it accurate to say that the QR codes contain (i.e.: encode) songs and poems? The source says that the QR code allows one to "select the link" and also that the poems and songs are rotated, which would be easier by altering links than physically changing the signage. If this is the case, suggest changing containing → linking to in the hook (and holding → linking to in the article). – Reidgreg (talk) 11:02, 27 May 2021 (UTC)

- @Mcguy15: Clarification is needed on ALT1. I read that to mean that the southernmost point of the Walter Bean trail intersects with some point along the Trans Canada Trail. But is it the other way around? Is it the southernmost point of the entire length of the Trans Canada Trail that has an intersection with the Walter Bean trail? That would indeed be interesting, but the article needs to state that. Wasted Time R (talk) 23:34, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Wasted Time R: It's a bit odd, the Trans Canada Trail isn't linear and takes 2 routes through Southern Ontario. The Walter Bean Trail actually makes up a part of the TCT in Cambridge (I actually didn't realize because the source didn't mention it, but the official map does). But no, the southernmost point of the Trans Canada Trail is not intersected by Walter Bean. The southernmost point of Walter Bean connects (and is part of) the TCT. I've clarified ALT1 and the article, thanks! It both "connects" and "is part of" the TCT, so while the old hook was still correct, what I changed it to is more accurate (although somehow more dull imo).

- On another note, I got out and took some pictures for the article, including this one of a Trail Mix sign, but I couldn't figure out how to incorporate it into the article. Mcguy15 (talk, contribs) 00:59, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
- In my view, I don't think either of the photos you have in the article right now are that strong. I would go with the original river/picnic table one for the top photo and the the QR Trail Mix photo for the left-side one. And then if we go with ALT2, the QR Trail Mix photo could be added to the hook. (If you can find another place to add a photo, then the current top one could go in – it shows the trail itself most clearly, but doesn't show much geographical context. Best of all would be a photo that clearly shows both the trail and the river.) Wasted Time R (talk) 12:43, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
@Wasted Time R: Do these images prevent the article being nominated for DYK? We seem a bit off topic at the moment. I'd be willing to take another picture, but not for a few days for sure. Mcguy15 (talk, contribs) 13:04, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
- It's on topic only to the extent that, if chosen, ALT2 could have the Trail Mix image in the hook if the image were in fact in the article. But I've said enough; I'll approve the nomination and leave it to you and the DYK promoter to work out what hook you want to use. Wasted Time R (talk) 20:38, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
Per discussion on User talk:Mcguy15/Archives/2021/June#Walter Bean Grand River Trail DYK for Canada Day, nominator has expressed permission to have this run on Canada Day. I'd prefer that ALT1 be used as it aligns with the Canada Day theme. Z1720 (talk) 18:24, 30 May 2021 (UTC)
- Sounds good. I previously had trouble verifying ALT1 online, but now have found it at this site – "A few kilometres of the southern portion of the trail in Cambridge is part of the Trans Canada Trail before it splits off ...". However that raises another question – since the common portion is in Cambridge, not Waterloo proper, shouldn't ALT1 be changed to say 'Waterloo Region', the same way ALT0 does? - Good catch, thank you. It's fixed. The source I used was actually available online, I found a pdf on google books if I remember correctly, but I can't seem to find it at the moment. Mcguy15 (talk, contribs) 20:03, 30 May 2021 (UTC)
- Okay, good, I'm re-approving this accordingly. Wasted Time R (talk) 21:41, 30 May 2021 (UTC)
