This is an excellent model for Wikipedia articles on paintings. I'm surprised it hasn't been attacked as "original research" by one of our many editors who provide plot summaries for novels in lieu of analysis. --Wetman 08:26, 27 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • Agreed. A very fine entry. JNW 17:20, 11 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

But apparently not the result of original research--page history suggests the article was borrowed from a web site, with permission. JNW 00:08, 8 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

How well established is this telescope theory? This seems like opinion to me. Ichnography (talk) 13:29, 14 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

See User_talk:Moonriddengirl/Archive_48#View_of_Delft_.28Vermeer.29. Unfortunately I cannot see the deleted file, so I cannot re-add the comments I made prior to deletion. This is a problem when copyvios are removed without notifying the contributors beforehand. Jane (talk) 08:41, 18 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Critique of the article on View of Delft

edit

There isn't indication that the painting is of Delft as it looked from the south, besides that it is the artist's hometown. Additional information on the content of the painting, in terms of the objects and structures present, how they are represented compared to maps and documents indicating how they actually were would be beneficial. The Painting materials section could also be expanded when considering Vermeer's technique. Rhein o (talk) 23:41, 7 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hello! This is a note to let the editors of this article know that File:Vermeer-view-of-delft.jpg will be appearing as picture of the day on August 7, 2018. You can view and edit the POTD blurb at Template:POTD/2018-08-07. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 03:18, 20 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

View of Delft is an oil painting on canvas by Johannes Vermeer, painted c. 1660–1661. Depicting the artist's hometown Delft, it was completed at a time when cityscapes were uncommon, and has become one of Vermeer's most popular works. It is one of three known paintings of the city by Vermeer, along with The Little Street and the lost painting House Standing in Delft. The use of pointillism suggests that the painting, which is held by the Mauritshuis in The Hague, postdates The Little Street.Painting: Johannes Vermeer
