I found a great external link (http://85.1911encyclopedia.org/J/JE/JENNER_EDWARD.htm) containing lots of information about this topic. As it's from the 1911 edition of the Encyclopædia Britannica, it should qualify as public domain; however, the website has a strict copyright policy:
