Nationality edit

Can citations PLEASE be provided regarding this person's nationality/citizenship? I will revert this bio until they are provided. Thanks you. --Threeafterthree (talk) 21:45, 27 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Right, best we've got:

Mexican heritage to Mexican immigrants. His brother plays for the U.S. national soccer team because of the residency rule: also see Marcos Senna who is Brazilian, but plays for Spain. Represented Team USA in Pankration as there isn't a Mexican team and he qualified through residency.

His only claim to American "nationality" is residency. This much is admitted, but his primary nationality is Mexican. Paralympiakos (talk) 22:03, 27 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

according to whom?--N2492004 (talk) 22:06, 27 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Common sense. Paralympiakos (talk) 22:07, 27 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

The immigrant thing is sourced now. I trust this ends the matter. Paralympiakos (talk) 22:13, 27 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Guys, try to keep it cool. Thanks. Also Common sense is NO reason/defense for ANY "material" that is being contested by othher editors...even if "true" :)...seriously, I just changed his brothers bio per this citation. Maybe Ulysses has the same deal? also, please indent your comments, you should know better...--Threeafterthree (talk) 22:13, 27 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, his brother plays for the U.S. because of residency, much like Senna (mentioned earlier) is Brazilian but plays for Spain. I believe that the contested statements are now adequately sourced, so I believe we're done here. Paralympiakos (talk) 22:19, 27 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

(e/c)Not quite. The source you provided does not mention his nationality, it mentions that he was born in the US to parents of Mexican ethnicity. Can you please post citation here and let others review them so we don't have to go back and forth? TIA --Threeafterthree (talk) 22:22, 27 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Born+residence=American end of the matter--N2492004 (talk) 22:21, 27 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Do you not bother reading the sources N? Paralympiakos (talk) 22:23, 27 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
(e/c)I did. Maybe I missed it though. Can you pleae post here the part from any of the citations that discuss his nationalty/citizenship? I won't revert again for now but will try to get others input. --Threeafterthree (talk) 22:27, 27 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Look, Three, the fact is, according to WP:V and RS, the sourced versions take priority over unsourced claims. Leave it as it is please, so that we keep with rules. Paralympiakos (talk) 22:24, 27 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Your source at Hercules Gomez says they are Mexican-American (dual citizenship). Mexican heritage plus citizenship = primary nationality with American as his secondary nationality due to citizenship. Living there is his ONLY claim to U.S. nationality and that makes it a SECOND one. I don't know why N is so eager to claim Gomez as American. Paralympiakos (talk) 22:32, 27 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

(e/c, not sure where other comment went)Well I do :)...seriously, it looks like Ulysses' brother does hold dual nationality, so I edited that bio to reflect this. I have a "feeling" that Ulysses might be in the same situation, but have not seen a citation to back that up like the one I posted above. The citations from Paralympiakos are not "specific" enough in this reagrds, --Threeafterthree (talk) 22:32, 27 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
Restoring my deleted comment. They're in the same boat. The only thing is, Gomez used the rule in football (the residency rule) to take dual nationality, to play for the U.S. As I've said, they have dual nationality, but one is more prominent than the other....Mexican. Paralympiakos (talk) 22:35, 27 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
(e/c)ok, now my head is going to explode :)..talking about one nationality being more "prominent" is a first for me. All this is about for me is WP:MOSBIO, period. If this guy holds dual citizenship, like his brother, then Mexican-American is ok it seems. We do need specific citation(s) that mention dual citenship, ect though. --Threeafterthree (talk) 22:40, 27 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
Your own source..... http://www.usatoday.com/sports/soccer/worldcup/2010-05-11-gomez-worldcup_N.htm Paralympiakos (talk) 22:44, 27 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

But why Mexican? once again he was born and raised in the United States. --N2492004 (talk) 22:37, 27 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Oh good God. Two weeks I've been hearing that same line over and over. It's his SECOND nationality! Please stop badgering me. Paralympiakos (talk) 22:38, 27 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
According to whom?--N2492004 (talk) 22:39, 27 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
Sorry to beat this dead horse, but it looks like the "compromise" or whatever you want to call it, was that if a person's ethnicity was so notable, it could possibly be added to the lead, not that I fully agreed that the notability had been in fact proven. The nationality in the info box, however, should remain unless reliable sources could be provided to show that as well. Anyways, --Threeafterthree (talk) 14:20, 3 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
I'm confused. You're the one who just removed Mexican from his nationality in favour of Mexican only, when he has dual nationality. Paralympiakos (talk) 14:42, 3 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

New section edit

Guys, can folks please use semi colons to indent their comments going forward? Also, can any/all citations please be posted here with specific text from the cite pointed out here as well? TIA --Threeafterthree (talk) 22:45, 27 August 2010 (UTC

The question still remains why the Mexican flag icon over the American flag icon?--N2492004 (talk) 22:48, 27 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
.....indent N. I've answered this question a dozen times and I won't be answering it again. I'm going to go back to the sourced version. If you revert, I'll have to report for 3RR and violation of WP:V and RS. Paralympiakos (talk) 22:49, 27 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

All you've given is your own personal opinion--N2492004 (talk) 23:12, 27 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Vargas Story edit

The story about the Drew Vargas incident is just a copy of a story about Drew Fickett where they they just changed the names of the story. Here is a copy of the original story http://www.sherdog.net/forums/f61/drunken-drew-fickett-goes-nuts-new-jersey-lol-571607/ In consideration of this, I will be removing the section and editing it out of the introduction. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Awhislyle (talkcontribs) 05:57, 7 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
