Regarding the Anchor, I don't know that it is a given the Powell refers to a USS Powell or an anchor manufacturer named Powell. 1942 is before the keels were laid for USS Halsey Powell and USS William T. Powell (DE-213). This seems like original research at this point to say with certainty that that anchor was from Halsey Powell. Baldt Anchor Company in Chester PA was managed by someone with the last name of Powell during WW2,[1] Those markings may be a certification that the anchor meets that rating in 1942, certified by Powell. - I don't think anchors were cast with a ship name on them since they would have to have a specific ship in mind at the time of the casting. This would prevent mass production. Anchor markings in the UK required the following: "Every manufacturer of anchors shall mark on every anchor manufactured by him in legible anchors, characters and both on the crown and also on the shank under the stock his name or initials, and shall in addition mark on the anchor a progressive number and the weight of the anchor."[2] --Dual Freq (talk) 02:12, 28 June 2016 (UTC)
Based on this I think Powell is probably the name of either the manufacturer or employee responsible for certifying or confirming the specifics of the anchor. --Dual Freq (talk) 02:12, 28 June 2016 (UTC)
I've removed it from the article. The next step here would be to get something in writing from the people who obtained the anchor as to where they got it from. I don't think anchors typically have ship names inset in them and this one predates USS Halsey Powell. --Dual Freq (talk) 21:20, 28 June 2016 (UTC)
Noted. I've reached out to the Naval History and Heritage Command and they informed me that "this anchor does not have a ship association. It was produced for shipboard use, but became excess to the Navy's needs prior to being placed on a ship." I'm trying to find out more about the markings, but for now also removed the mention of specific ships from the picture page. --Asrugan (talk) 16:18, 1 July 2016 (UTC)
War diary edit
User:Fly2low why do you keep adding trivia from the ship's war diary to the page? No-one cares about when its boilers were switched on and off in October 1943. If you want you can add an External Link to the war diary if its available online, but stop adding complete trivia that is of no interest to readers. Mztourist (talk) 16:02, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
