I find the current naming / organization to be confusing. I reviewed the history of the split, but I think we could organize/name articles in a more logical way. First, I think that Universal Recording (the Chicago studio) should be its own article covering the studio specifically (like the United Western Recorders article) - I'm happy to help out with creating it if necessary. Next, I think that this article would more accurately be named Universal Recording Electronics Industries (UREI) (which would also be a redirect for Teletronix & UREI and help cover the later use of the brand by Soundcraft/Harman). Finally, the Universal Audio (company) page could be edited/expanded to not only refer to this page, but cover the current company's origin and history more completely. Additionally, the coverage of current Universal Audio products (both the re-issues as well as new designs) should be covered more completely. I hope others agree that the current UA company has proven itself to be much more than a small boutique manufacturer and is a major player among today's pro audio manufacturers. synthfiend (talk) 17:21, 2 March 2016 (UTC)

Per my comments above, I split Universal Recording Corporation to its own article. I still think that this article would be best served be renaming it UREI or Universal Recording Electronics Industries (UREI) and cleaning it up / expanding it. synthfiend (talk) 13:07, 2 September 2021 (UTC)

UREI 1600 series of mixers made by Soundcraft

While looking at the Soundcraft web site for older products I found that they had a brochure for the UREI 1600 series of mixers. On the last page it is branded as UREI Soundcraft. This leads me to believe that JBL had it designed and manufactured by Soundcraft. This would have been after Bill Putnam's time with the company.

That mixer is the orphan of Rudy Bozak, who took Wayne Chou's design and made it the most famous DJ mixer in its day, the CMA-10-2DL. After a couple of happy decades ruling the DJ mixer market, Bozak experienced a string of losses in revenue and was forced to sell. By the time that UREI decided they wanted to sell a DJ mixer, the rights to Bozak and Chou's design were in public domain, and UREI fabbed a clone. Binksternet (talk) 00:20, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

All is made clear. Reading the Rudy Bozak's DJ entry it explains that the Soundcraft mixer is a reissue of the UREI mixer which is a clone of the Bozak design. Thanks for the tip. Robert.Harker (talk) 18:36, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

• Support - Some additional work needs to be done but doing this move now is an improvement over the current situation where we have Universal Audio and Universal Audio (company) articles covering overlapping topics from slightly different angles.
