Talk:Treaty of Georgievsk

Revert war waged in late October and then in November edit

I deplore that no one of the warriors had opened any discussion in this talk page about their differences. Experienced editors should know better.

A point of contention in the war has been an edit to say something about the supposed extinction of royal branch of the Bagrationi, believed in 1940s, but proven untrue after Georgians started to enjoy communications with Western europe in 1990s or therearound.

It is totally clear to me that the said point is legitimate to be made.

The supposed extinction had caused the Moukhraneli branch's head to start royal pretension when domiciled in Spain (or therearound), leading to proclamations of them being Heads of the Royal House pf Georgia. However, the direct line from Georgia's last kings, 18th century, (as opposed to its some medieval kings) were found alive and kicking, which means that the grounds to Moukhraneli to assume the Headship were proven false. Changes edit

I changed the article slightly to reflect Giorgi's petition for inclusion into Russia. In my opinion this fact means that the treaty lost much of its value or meaning by 1799. It is incorrect to speak of "unilateral annexation" under such circumstances. As the article correctly states Giorgi's request was that of a mediatization, which is significantly stronger than the original treaty. Strictly speaking, Giorgi's petition was honored to some extent since David retained the title Tsarevitch, albeight not Tsar, which would be the minimal criterion for mediatization, although clearly only until 1833.

Another minor point: things like "Russian communists" in the discussion reinforce the image of Russian conspiracy. Those communists were "Soviet", and certainly not only Russian ethnically.

Another thing how can the Bagratids be deposed in 1800 if David was taken to St. Pete in 1803 (I didnot change this).Gaidash —Preceding undated comment was added at 23:09, 9 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
