shabby translation edit

This article seems to have been written with an automated translator like Google translate... --83.134.185.245 (talk) 20:37, 17 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

I cleaned up the translation considerably and tried to make all the place names and factory names conform to a common standard, but there were still some passages that were too incoherent for me to make out their meaning. There were also a few things that hadn't been translated at all. Somebody who knows Ukrainian ought to compare it with the original. Wallace McDonald (talk) 02:30, 7 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
I have helped out with some copyediting but there are still some sentences which are too incoherent so I have tried my best to help. :) Vincent60030 (talk) 06:31, 20 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
Assisted with copyediting. Accidentally submitted the change before I'd finished my change summary. I changed sentences for grammar and clarity; however, I did not understand some sentences and was unable to fix them. What exactly does "internal and external conveyance" (in the Transportation section) mean? --AstroEngiSci (talk) 21:32, 18 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Citations missing edit

The article appears to have citations for the recent history of Torez (Malaysia Airlines and the recent conflict between Russia and Ukraine), but is missing citations almost everywhere else. --AstroEngiSci (talk) 21:44, 18 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

TorezChystiakove – Wikipedia should be neutral in the conflict between the separatists and Ukraine. There is one mean to achieve it: entitle this article by its legal name (or name de jure) i.e. Chystiakove. Moreover, the DPR is internationally unrecognised. • Support The town was named Oleksiivka (1778–1840, 62 years), Oleksiieve-Leonove (1840–1868, 28), Chystiakove (1868–1964 and 2016—, 101), and Torez (1964–2016, 52). Heavy coverage of the shooting down of flight MH17 in 2014 all used “Torez” before the name was changed in 2016. But WP:MODERNPLACENAME and WP:NAMECHANGES ask us to respect place-name changes and give weight to names in current use (in this case a name also having a significant previous history). The article should be named properly for its subject, although it might be appropriate to use other names in different contexts (i.e., in the article Malaysia Airlines Flight 17). Measuring relative usage is unreliable because various spellings have been used, e.g., Chystiakove/Chystyakove/Chistiakovo, Oleksiivka/Olexiyivka/Alexeevka (~150 settlements named Alexeyevka, Russia). WP:UKR would have us use the spelling Chystiakove for the current name. —Michael Z. 15:02, 18 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
I notice a statement in an edit summary that “current consensus is to keep names used by the DPR/LPR,” but I haven’t seen evidence of this consensus; perhaps editors would rather not open cans of worms over article moves, but here we are. I’m not sure how such a consensus would be implemented in practice, since the unrecognized republics of L/DNR don’t control a lot of their claimed territory, their territory has not been stable, and some towns are in the grey zone. We must be careful about why we choose these article titles to reflect a WP:Neutral point of view.
For other cities renamed in 2015–16, see List of Ukrainian toponyms that were changed as part of decommunization in 2016. Of other renamed settlements in Donetsk oblast, our article title is the new name for Pikuzy (former Kominternove), Petrivka, Volnovakha Raion (former Petrivske), Nikolske (former Volodarske), Azov, Novoazovsk Raion (former Dzerzhynske), Uzhivka, Novoazovsk Raion (former Leninske), Bakhmut (former Artemivsk), Zalizne (former Artemove), Toretsk (former Dzerzhynsk), Myrnohrad (former Dymytrov), Pokrovsk (former Krasnoarmiisk), and Lyman, Ukraine (former Krasnyi Lyman); but currently keeps the old Soviet name for Kalmiuske (former Komsomolske, Donetsk Oblast), Bunhe (former Yunokomunarivsk), and Khrestivka (former Kirovske, Donetsk Oblast). —Michael Z. 15:31, 18 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Google Maps and Apple Maps both use Chystiakove, the NGIA GeoNames Search gives approved name Chystiakove and variants Chistyakovo, Topez, Torez, Tschistjakowa, Tschistjakowo. Any other reference sources updated since 2016? (Britannica entry was updated 2011.) —Michael Z. 16:16, 18 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
