editThis needs a re-write with more focus and attention on Tim Reynolds than Dave Matthews (or his collaborations with him). The Discography should also be put into the usual Wiki format, Solo, Live, Collaborations etc.Stephenjh 18:27, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
Thanks Milchama, and everyone else who has helped improve this article. Stephenjh 04:42, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
The bio is directly lifted from TR's website; its a word for word copy.
So? It's an improvement on the previous efforts that focussed more on Dave Matthews than Tim Reynolds himself!. However, if you think you can improve the article or write a better one yourself, then by all means go ahead. Your contribution would be welcome and appreciated.
- "So?" So it is a copyright infringement, unless Reynolds has released it under a free license or into public domain. Additionally, it is too biased and unencyclopedic, especially this paragraph. - Slow Graffiti 18:10, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
- Overall, Reynolds is a guitarist who rises above the mere mastery of chops to a virtual state of communion with his instrument. Reynolds makes use of every capacity the guitar possesses. He has brought a whole new sensibility to his instrument with his wide-ranging musical ability. From progressive rock, straight-up jazz and high-powered funk fusion guitar, to bass, piano, sitar, mandolin, violin, and a plethora of ethnic percussion instruments. When this self-taught musician performs it is a symphony of the senses.
Nonsense. It's not copyright infringement when taken from an artists website and if you find the paragraph quoted above to be biased (which I disagree with) or "unencyclopedic" [sic], then feel free to improve it. Have you ever seen Reynolds perform? he is a maestro of the guitar, and that is not opinion, it's a fact. Stephenjh 18:25, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
- Fact or opinion, it sounds like an advertisement for him - not an encyclopedia article. There's nothing incorrect about my usage of the term unencyclopedic (ref. NPOV and Personal websites as primary sources). I think looking at featured articles on musicians (like Louis Armstrong, Pink Floyd, and The Beatles is a good start; how this article departs from Wikipedia's standards should be immediately evident.
- "rises above the mere master of chops to a virtual state of communion with his instrument"? "makes use of every capacity the guitar possesses"? "symphony of the senses"? From Key policies: "2. Avoid bias. Articles should be written from a neutral point of view, representing all views on a subject, factually and objectively, in an order which is agreeable to a common consensus." Is it really agreeable to common consensus that it is a "symphony of the senses" when Reynolds performs?
- Copyright infringement was the wrong term, I used it as I was typing quickly - it is still plagiarism; the source is not properly cited. As it is cited currently, on the final paragraph of the biography appears to be cited from that source. Anyway, yes, I have seen him on tour with Dave Matthews and have some of his recordings. I openly acknowledge his talent - that has little to do with the way this article is worded. - Slow Graffiti 21:45, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
Well, as I have said before, if you think the article can be bettered or improved then please feel free to do so. Simply criticising it does nothing, positive contributions are more beneficial to the project. ("Unencyclopedic" was just an unusual spelling not found in my dictionaries). Stephenjh 03:59, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
Discussion of what to do next with the article is what the talk page is for. Talk page: "The purpose of a talk page is to help to improve the contents of the article in question. Questions, challenges, excised text (due to truly egregious confusion or bias, for example), arguments relevant to changing the text, and commentary on the main page are all fair play." Sounds like what I'm doing. ;) - Slow Graffiti 18:46, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
Well, for all your time and effort on this page, nothing has changed within the actual article. Infact, this page could become bigger than the article itself ;) Stephenjh 19:13, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
- All ten minutes total? Hah. - Slow Graffiti 20:25, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
Exactly. 10 minutes of criticising on the talk page (to no effect) and zero input into the article itself. A great contribution! Stephenjh 00:20, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
- Why are you so critical of me? It's not in a constructive manner. What I offered was constructive criticism, though it is more and more apparent that I was merely talking to myself about what I plan to do when I get the time - you simply continued to tell me to edit it myself. I haven't been seriously editing this week...the pages I have changed were simple edits made as I was actually using Wikipedia, not intending to contribute to it. When I find a better source of information or the time to edit this article, I will. In the meantime, I see nothing wrong with contributing to discussion of what can be done on the article. There are many articles ahead of this one that I'm concerned with. As I don't like Reynolds' personal website's bio here, it'll take a lot more than fixing a sentence or two. Referring to Wikipedia's guidelines again: such major changes should be proposed on the talk page first. That's what I did. - Slow Graffiti 16:43, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
I know a good 'critic joke' of which you remind me. When I get time I'll post it here. Stephenjh 19:02, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
DEFINITE copyright problem
editThe text in that section comes from here, which very clearly states at the bottom "Copyright". I'm going to remove that section for now. 68.39.174.238 11:18, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
I agree that section is a little biased
editThe part that I think is biased is "which has managed to escape mainstream critical recognition,". From one perspective, he has escaped recognition because of a massive conspiracy to put down the truly talented among us. From another, his work just is not commercial or popular enough. I think any statement showing surprise that he is not more popular is biased. Fortunately, I think he has been recognized for his contribution both to the Dave Matthews Band and to Dave Matthews both as a friend and as a partner in a duo. It is inescapable that that is how most of us have learned about him.

Discography/Citations
editI made the discography into a table, but didn't differentiate it into solo, TR3, guesting, etc. But, it looks better than it was, and I'll separate the sections soon enough. Darry2385 (talk) 23:55, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
- I've cited as much as I can, mostly all the collaborations and albums he's done. Therefore, I've removed the "needs citations" tag. Darry2385 (talk) 02:10, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
- Great work on gathering it all the information together, but it really does need to be split between solo, TR and DM etc... it's a bit of a mix as it is! Stephenjh (talk) 12:58, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
Citizenship
editDoes anyone know for sure if Tim is a US Citizen? Both he and Dave Matthews were born in other countries. Matthews is a Citizen, as witnessed by his ad clips for Obama. I'd assume Tim IS, having married American citizens and being an Army brat-- because his father was in the military, but you never know. --leahtwosaints (talk) 23:29, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
Sources to use
editHere is a two part, rare, excellent interview with Tim Reynolds: [1] [2] They are from the After Hours show @ Syracuse University 10/25/00 Goldstein Auditorium. Yes, from 2000, but still relevant, and it is on You Tube, but you can send a YouTube message to the poster, and they will respond right away and give you whatever additional information you might need. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 01:58, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
Guitar section?
editI can't believe there's no section regarding Reynolds' unusual approach to the guitar!! His mastery and ability have been discussed by Dave Matthews numerous times, usually when they perform on a concert tour as a duo. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 19:29, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
