Separate page for characters edit

Should we have a seperate page for the characters? The article may also be perhaps improved by adding a section about its reviews. Apoorv020 (talk) 05:01, 22 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Quothe? edit

Possible error in the opening, where it says his name is pronounced "Quothe." I seem to recall the phrase being "Similar to Quothe", which would not be the same. If someone could look this up and confirm/disprove this notion, that'd be great. Aeti (talk) 19:41, 8 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Organisations, Places and Landmarks edit

This page definitely needs more information about the world described in the book. Apoorv020 (talk) 10:49, 20 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

If Temerant is the "whole world" then "The present day Temerant is in a state of civil war" cannot make sense. A civil war occurs within a kingdom or state, not within the whole world.

Characters from the second novel edit

Characters from the second novel have to be added, as do minor characters like Fela etc. Apoorv020 (talk) 09:32, 5 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Mythos edit

We need to construct a section regarding the mythos and history of the word as revealed in the books as a handy reference, especially for those who forget some points from the first book. This should include the stories regarding Lanre, Taborlin the Great, and the ancient Lackless family (which is clearly going to be a very important thread in this story). For example following a summary of Skarpi's story should be the following",

In "The Song of Seven Sorrows," composed by Denna with the assistance of her mysterious patron, Lenre is portrayed "in tragic tones" as a fallen hero "wrongly used," cursed by Selitos.

I would add this, but I don't recall the story as told by Skarpi. I plan to start accumulating notes here in the Talk section that can then be pulled together for the page.--GodBlessYou2 (talk) 16:07, 31 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

While these additions are very detailed, it's perhaps a bit much for the general Wikipedia entry. The article could use some parring down in the lore and character entries. Perhaps we should not include so many blatent spoilers, as well? People who need a refresher on the book should reread, or reference a Kingkiller-specific wiki, not a general Wikipedia article. --Lomky 18:20, 13 April 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lomky (talkcontribs)

Establish real world notability edit

The book summaries are way out of proportion to the degree of real world notability this author, or his books, or the characters from his books, have been shown to have attained. Please, fans, remember this is an encyclopedia, not a fansite. find references for critical commentary and discussion of the books from OUTSIDE the fan base, before adding any more in universe details. We dont have a single positive comment from any one in any of his articles, only a listing of middle rank awards. This detail is appropriate for major characters and themes in shakespeare or hemingway. he may, in fact, be a better writer, thats not the point. show your work, as they say in school.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 03:21, 21 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Book 2 debuted at the top of the NYT Bestseller list. Has Wikipedia seriously gotten to the point that this doesn't sufficiently establish notability? 209.195.90.199 (talk) 05:47, 23 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

I agree. The article is currently just a tedious list of character names and short descriptions which is not of much interest to anyone except fans maybe. It needs to focus more of its real world position. For example, is it YA fiction, dark fantasy. It is incredible that these sorts of details are not there. Resolving issues by cutting extraneous details edit

So I'm letting everyone know I'll be essentially bulldozing this page and rebuilding it, as it's more of a fan wiki at this point than anything resembling Wikipedia proper. What I'm doing is:

(1) Cutting out stuff about mythos and character lists

(2) Adding in real-world notability, including sales figures and awards

(3) Adding in information on the TV/film adaptation

(4) Maybe talking about the third book or lack thereof

Speak up if you take issue with this. FishAndCrisps (talk) 10:54, 29 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

The result of the discussion was no consensus to merge. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 12:08, 16 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

There's no need for each book in the series to have its own Wikipedia page. Should we merge them with the Kingkiller Chronicle page?

Update: So the votes here are pretty even. Could we get more opinions?

FishAndCrisps (talk) 21:33, 6 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

  • I'm a bit hesitant - but not completely opposed. If this was a series with a clear path forward - I'd strongly oppose it since as additional books are released, the article would get longer and longer, leading to an eventual splitting back into the state it's in (one page for the series, one for each book). Since there is no sign of a third book (and may never be one) - and there's only two books in the series though it wouldn't be terrible to have it as a single page (with a re-split in the future if needed). Sorry - I'm undecided which I guess may not be helpful. Caidh (talk) 14:48, 7 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
My thinking is this: there isn't enough to differentiate each book. There's no individual adaptations. Each book has won different awards, but that's about it. With a chopped down summary, the individual books would easily fit into the Kingkiller Chronicle's page. FishAndCrisps (talk) 12:41, 8 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
I don't see a strong reason to merge. The books are notable enough that I think they merit individual pages.
(There's also The Slow Regard of Silent Things.) Olivaw-Daneel (talk) 09:55, 8 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
I was thinking that could retain its own page, as it's a different beast to The Kingkiller Chronicle proper. FishAndCrisps (talk) 12:38, 8 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. These are independently notable, with reception, summaries, awards, and pop culture influences.— Shibbolethink ( ) 20:38, 19 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Support I see no reason these connected works cannot be covered together per what FishAndCrisps wrote. Additionally, split articles usually just sit there, unread. Hekerui (talk) 12:30, 20 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose I think those pages must be independent, because they come form different books--Firerball fr (talk) 17:52, 25 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose Ditto to what Shibboleth wrote. Each book could have an executive summery on the series page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Burned Toast (talkcontribs) 07:04, 16 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Note: I've made a closure request at WikiProject Novels. Olivaw-Daneel (talk) 00:50, 4 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

"Fandom" subheader contains original research edit

Are summaries of fanfictions really appropriate content for this article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vastusss (talkcontribs) 23:58, 3 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Not if the only source is fanfiction.net. Removed Olivaw-Daneel (talk) 00:26, 4 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Pronunciation of Kvothe edit

How would Kvothe be pronounced? Preferably in IPA. 惑乱 Wakuran (talk) 01:45, 11 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
