Backing Members Timeline edit

This is a rough estimate based on a reliable source of people who behave backed the Beach boys live, please don't delete this if more sources are needed so be it but it should not be deleted completely. Beachboys379 (talk) 21:43, 8 December 2014 (UTC)Beachboys379Reply

Forum posts are not reliable sources (WP:USENET) and the others (Beachboysfanclub, etc.) are weak sources that fail verification. All material needs to be substantiated in an attached source. Wikipedia is not a place to outline "rough estimations". (WP:OR)--Ilovetopaint (talk) 21:52, 8 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Distinction edit

Should we explicitly state that there's the band "The Beach Boys", and the corporate/legal entity "The Beach Boys" and exactly what the meaningful difference is? Or should that go in the main article?

Chart colors edit

Do the gold and silver colors in the chart mean anything? If so, what? — User:ACupOfCoffee@ 16:59, 16 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Where's Brian from '86 to '95? edit

He contributed to their '89 album and you can find videos of him performing live with the group, as well as promotional music videos featuring him, at least up to the late 80's. I'm not sure where he was in the early 90's, but could you not consolidate the entire '83-'96 period into one section of the timeline? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aardvark114 (talkcontribs) 01:04, 30 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Editing Musicians for upcoming tour edit

Please make sure that any musician that has been added to the page has a reliable source, directly linking them to the current band or tour itself. NOTHING HAS BEEN OFFICIALLY NAMED! However, certain hints are being leaked by the band as to who will be touring. Examples: A February 14th posting on Facebook confirming John Stamos, a picture of Matt Jardine rehearsing with the band, Scott Bennett and Jeff Foskett on stage with the band at Dodgers Stadium, and Nelson Bragg rehearsing in behind Al Jardine in the studio. Those are valid sources!Gsgeek540 (talk) 02:15, 23 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

The Stamos Debate edit

A couple users have brought up the John Stamos debate on this and The Beach Boys 50th Anniversary Reunion Tour with the question of "should he be listed as an additional musician?" I honestly have fought to keep him on both pages because he and the band have both indicated that he will be apart of the touring band at select shows, and all sources lead to that. There is no question about the fact that he has performed with the band thus far. However, the rumor mill is going around and around saying "that was his only show" or "only New York" or only here or there. Unfortunately, the same people with those rumors are unable to provide a valid source and will just remove him because they "heard it" somewhere and remove the current source up there. I think until there is a source saying otherwise, Stamos should remain on both pages as an additional musician. If a source can not be found, and, at the end of the tour, he only does perform the one show, we can note that appropriately on both pages but until then, the sources speak for themselves.

I did update a source on one of the pages from Stamos performing Forever to the source of him actually saying he will be involved in the tour. Like i said, the question now isn't did he perform but rather will he have involvement and this source better fits the debate, with all do respect.

With that being said, any unsourced removals of Stamos from either page will be reverted back and directed to the talk page of each respective page, as per Wikipedia:Compromise and be debated there.

The reality is that tour is half over, and Stamos has only appeared at three shows (2 in NYC & and one in New Orleans) out of nearly 30 performed. It's not necessary for the article to state this explicitly or for it to be cited, that is beyond the scope of the article. But, it is important that the article's phrasing, as derived from the existing cites, does not mis-state his actual level of involvement. I would be comfortable with a statement like "John Stamos indicated that he would be involved with the tour (existing cite), and appeared with the group in New York City and New Orleans (cite as needed)". It's not necessary to get into "he said he would be involved but now he's not", or address some discontinuity, it should just present what was said in a manner that is accurate and truthful.
It's also appropriate to remove him from the "band lineup" sections in any article about this tour. It was already an incorrect extrapolation to infer that the cited statement that he "would be involved" prior to the tour meant that he would necessarily be a part of the backing band, though I understand why that was a reasonable way to present it at the time, since he had been involved in that capacity in the past. Now that the tour is well underway, it's no longer necessary to hold to that. It is misleading to suggest that he is making an ongoing appearance on the tour. 70.182.195.99 (talk) 19:18, 18 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Did you even watch the video attached to the source?!? He clearly indicated he was asked to be "apart of the show" and clearly indicates his intentions were to "be in the audience and introduce them on stage" but he was approached to be asked to be "apart of the show". This debate is going on and changes to this page before a consensus reach by all users will be reverted and reported as vandalism as per WP:Compromise. Gsgeek540 (talk) 20:13, 18 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
I trust that you are editing in good faith, Gsgeek540 but I think I've laid out exactly what the problems are with listing Stamos as a band member, referring to his involvement as ongoing, or using his pre-tour statements as an indicator of role on the tour after the fact. You have not indicated why the compromise text I created was problematic for you, and have instead continued to revert the article to an inaccurate and misleading state without apparent justification. I agree that the article should be submitted for moderation. 70.182.195.99 (talk) 20:26, 18 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

As posted on other page by Andrew G. Stamos' pre-tour comments appear in retrospect to have been aspirational or speculative, and shouldn't be included anymore. They may have had more relevance in the gear-up period, but only confuse and unnecessarily weigh down the article now, after the fact, since he did not have an ongoing or consistent role in the tour. His comments from prior to the tour aren't relevant or essential to the article any longer. They are not, for example, mentioned in the main 50th Anniversary Tour article, and it seems appropriate to edit this article in a manner consistent with that one. Please understand I'm not trying to diminish Stamos' role in the tour - he simply didn't have any significant role, and nothing you or I say can change that fact. I'm trying to edit the article to be consistent with the role that he actually had. 70.182.195.99 (talk) 21:02, 8 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
How are the pretour comments speculative? As per source that you removed "John Stamos to Perform With the Beach Boys During 50th Anniversary Tour". He or the article doesn't define how many shows or to what extent, other then to be "apart of the show". He did just that. He performed in 2 shows. Yes it is not the entire tour but it is certainly not speculation. Given his nearly 30 year connection with the band, how can you possibly justify that is not worth mentioning? You ask why isn't it on 50th anniversary tour page? Because that article doesn't mention, whether it be a paragraph or touring summary, Stamos' history with the Beach Boys as this article does. Might i remind you, this page refers back to 1960s. As for your links, the only link that should be deleted is the facebook link of matt jardine rehearsing with the band. As i mentioned, every other link is linked to content in the article as per WP:REF
The pre-tour comments certainly suggest a level of involvement that was not borne out in reality. My attitude is that the discontinuity between what he said in the linked comments/video and what actually happened on the tour basically cancels itself out, and the appropriate approach is to just not include those comments. The 50th is getting closer and closer to being in the rearview, and the article should not be speaking from a perspective of what might happen, but reflecting accurately what did happen. And the overall amount of text dedicated to the 50th is small. So, I think the mentions that Stamos already has on the page (not in reference to the 50th tour) are appropriately reflective of his history with the band; mentioning him especially in the context of the 50th looks oddly slanted from the current perspective. I'm sure Stamos will continue to be involved with the Mike/Bruce show and the article can and should reflect that as time goes on.
The links you refer to may be fine, but they were just crudely inserted at the very bottom of the page underneath the infobox, which isn't right. If you want to re-incorporate them, put them in (or create) the appropriate section. 70.182.195.99 (talk) 22:39, 8 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Timeline edit

Please can anyone make a timeline, like in ALL other articles? See Fleetwood Mac, Guns n Roses, Aerosmith etc etc etc. Timeline with colors and everyone can see when who was in the band. I mean this should be an encyclopedia and now its very hard to find the information what I need.

By the way, in the Beach Boys article there is no section with "Band members" and this line up site is almost impossible to find. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.116.242.76 (talk) 05:13, 19 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Brian toured in ~72-73? edit

That chart looks like it's saying that Brian was touring with the band circa 1972. This is incorrect as far as I know. Santa Claus of the Future (talk) 20:27, 20 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

==Brian was on Stars and Stripes Vol. 1.== Brian was on Stars and Stripes Vol. 1 but It shows he stopoed with the beach boys in 95 but it i beleive it was until Carls death in 1998.
