Unclaimed Silver?

How can there be unclaimed silver at the courthouse? It must belong to someone who can be shown to be the owner, given its provenance. This needs further research. 213.123.199.119 (talk) 10:34, 8 May 2015 (UTC)

NPOV

This seems to be a very pro-defense description of the trial. I have never before heard verified the claims that jurors ate a celebratory dinner at the Horseshoe or that "witnesses were paid by the Binion family", which is unclear and at best misleading. Do they mean expert witnesses who were hired? The private investigator the family hired to look into the murder, who found things that he later testified about? That is very different than paying off witnesses under the table, which is what this makes it sound like.

Also, I am pretty sure that the sexual nature of the Murphy/Tabish relationship is more than "alleged" at this point. What's "alleged" is that they actually had sex on Ted Binion's body before killing him, and I think that most experts believe that's probably true (?). See James McManus's "Positively Fifth Street" for a more complete look at the case against the defendants.

Whether this is factually accurate or not I don't know, but it is AT LEAST selective and certainly comes off as quite biased toward the defense in comparison with every other account I have come across. --66.108.51.198 06:03, 3 January 2006 (UTC)

• Most of the article is about the death and trials. What it needs is more about Ted. He probably should have an article but one with more detail then this one offers. I don't think anything needs moving... I think this needs to be treated like a bio article with a portion about his death. If the death portion becomes to large it could be given its own article eventually. But, absolutely, I agree with you - more about Ted is needed and I have begun adding to it. Binion was a reasonably prominent figure in life that just became VERY prominent in his death - would we have a biographical article about John Lennon that only talks about his assassination/murder? Explaining how this guy who could have ended up running Vegas but basically destroyed himself does had a certain significance. --CokeBear 23:37, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

A few notes

I'm no expert on Las Vegas or on the Binion case, but some of the "Talk" discussion seems less than accurate. It would help if particular textual examples of alleged NPOV or bias could be pointed out.

For example, someone seemed to suggest that Murphy and Tabish had been convicted of "torture." Actually, the convictions of Murphy and Tabish in the Binion case, at least as reported by the Review Journal, were convictions for burglary and grand larceny (and for conspiracy to commit burglary and/or larceny), in connection with the silver dig in Pahrump two days after Binion's death. Both Murphy and Tabish were acquitted of murder in the second trial. http://www.reviewjournal.com/news/binion/ There was no conviction of either Murphy or Tabish for "torture." The closest fact to this statement is that Tabish was convicted (with a deadly weapon enhancement) of the kidnapping and extortion of a business associate named Leo Casey in 1998. This was an entirely separate case and Murphy seems to have had nothing to do with it.

Considerable biographical information about Ted Binion (beyond information about his death and the criminal proceedings to which it led) is said to be included in the 2000 book, Death in the Desert: The Ted Binion Homicide Case, written by Cathy Scott.151.200.139.155 02:22, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

Removal of discussions

Frankly, I don't believe it matters how neutral the point of view is on a talk page - talk pages are for discussion. I am not sure who it was since they are not registered, but someone removed huge sections of other people's comments on this page and from what I know about Wikipedia - that just ain't cool.

Since I have been reading more about Binion and have developed a greater interest I hope to expand on information in the article in future. I came here to either get more info or add some if it was lacking. Having to hunt through the history of the talk page to actually see the discussions has me a bit aggravated right now. What is a ton

Precious metals are measured using the Troy system, 1 oz = 31.1 grams 12 oz = 1 POUND, unlike the usual pound that has 16 oz.

Expansion

Without so far touching the portion of the article about his death, I began expanding on the story of Binion's life using the web and the books I have at home. I am far from finished but unable to continue today. Heroin in the stomach not proof of anything??

Most people who've smoked heroin know that if you accidentally touch the tube used for inhaling to the blob of tar on the foil while smoking, you'll probably suck it up into your throat- especially if you're nodding. As much as was found in the stomach? That would be some inhale. Suggest the forensic details of the type and amount of the drugs in Binions stomach be added to the article, to give an accurate basis for theories of the cause of death. 184.1.11.217 (talk) 18:49, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
