A very ill-advised page move

This needs to be moved back to its original name Teatro Regio Torino or even better to its full name Teatro Reggio di Torino. "Royal Theatre of Turin" is merely a literal translation of its name not "its English name". It is rarely referred to in modern English reference books as the Royal Theatre of Turin. I agree with you Voceditenore. I have never seen an English language reference or any reference for that matter refer to it as the "Royal Theatre of Turin". It is always called the Teatro Reggio di Torino (or sometimes shortened to Teatro Regio Torino) in English language reference works, opera magazines, newspaper articles, etc. In this case the Italian name is better than the English one per Wikipedia:Naming conventions as the Italian name is more recognizable and precise.Singingdaisies (talk) 21:19, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

I, too, support the move of this article to Teatro Reggio di Torino. How, as claimed, the UNESCO lists the place, is neither here nor there – what counts is how its patrons worldwide call it. See also: Teatro Regio. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 03:58, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

The other issue is that Teatro Regio is both a theatre and an opera company. The opera company is certainly not named that. Besides, look at what the theatre is called in the English version of their own web site. Observe also the New York Times [1] and (in the UK) The Times [2] and the BBC [3]. Hang on! I agree with the Teatro Regio bit, but the first six link summaries from the New York Times search offer not one example of the suggested titles Teatro Regio Torino or Teatro Reggio di Torino. The only usage there of ‘Torino’ is the semi-literate ‘‘Torino Teatro Regio’’; the others read ‘Turin's Teatro Regio’, ‘Teatro Regio’, ‘Teatro Regio at Turin’, ‘Teatro Regio’, ‘Teatro Regio In Turin’. The Times and BBC results are similar. I’d suggest Teatro Regio (Turin) or Teatro Regio, Turin. (I would also suggest doing something similar to the current Teatro Regio di Parma.)
