Coincidences and Puccini

I removed the "in an eerie coincidence" bit. Whether it was eerie is matter of opinion, and coincidences happen all the time that don't necessarily mean anything.

Speaking of coincidences, there's one I've noted about Troyanos: the numbers in her birth date are an "anagram" of the numbers in her death date:

12 September 1938 = 12.9.1938 = 1123899

21 August 1993 = 21.8.1993 = 1123899.

This is extremely uncommon. I research such matters and I've only discovered half a dozen such people throughout history. But it still doesn't suit an encyclopedia article. Rather, it belongs in the book I'm writing.

Now onto more relevant matters. She doesn't seem to have ever recorded any Puccini. Did she ever sing Puccini professionally? -- JackofOz (talk) 02:00, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

In addition to the Hamburg Suzuki, she apparently sang La maestra delle novizie in "Suor Angelica" at New York City Opera in '65. Not many mezzo roles in Puccini. We do need a Hamburg performance record. According to Opera News, on her plans at the time of her death: "There was even talk of a Trittico in Chicago, in which she would take on the three key mezzo roles. All those notes went unsung." Let me comment on the version before I made my changes:

• Referencing is all wrong. Refs appear at the bottom of the page, not interspersed through the text. If you don’t know how to achieve this, just ask someone. This talk page is a good place to ask.
• Why is it necessary to say twice in the same paragraph that she was born in New York and grew up in Forest Hills?
• The text after <various bios> and <various obits/bios> reads like (very) rough notes that are designed to be source material and memory joggers for what will eventually become a properly written article. But you’ve inserted these rough notes as if they were the article text itself. Who ever does this? It’s full of “possibly because ...” and questions (to whom, I cannot say). We’re here to provide information to our readers, not ask questions of them. If you have questions or any requests for assistance with getting the article how you’d ideally like to see it, that’s what the talk page is for.
• The discography: The format is shocking, unreadable, atrocious. All those periods – why??
• Why do we need to know her age at which she made each of her recordings?
• Why is there a strong focus on what is and is not on YouTube?
• The section headed Illness starts out with her death. You don’t get much iller than that.
• Voice and artistry is just 2 long quotes. A cut and paste job. We can insert quotes sometimes, but not ones of this length. We have to come up with our own words.
• And if the large paragraphs in the Early Life and Illness sections are too dramatic and emotional, please have Wikipedia not be shown on Facebook anywhere.

• I have no idea what you’re on about here. Those large paragraphs appear to be the rough notes I alluded to above. They are completely unacceptable in that form, which is why I removed them totally. Surely I don’t need to explain why they were unacceptable. Have you ever read any piece of professional writing that was constructed in this truly bizarre way? I certainly haven’t, not even in my worst nightmares. What has Facebook go to do with Wikipedia? Sorry, but that just doesn't make any sense to me at all. Thank you. 1. Right re: referencing: put at bottom. 2. Right: repititions shouldn't be made. 3. Periods are removed. They were an attempt to straighten out the slanted discography list. 4. Age is interesting; has been said: (female opera) singers are at there prime between the ages of 35 and 45. (Not all, of course.) 5. YouTube is mentioned because it was said by more than one person that Troyanos was very under-recorded (in studios)(although there are a number of live and video/dvd recordings). 6. "Voice and Artistry" not mine and I haven't touched it nor any other place not mine. 7. Glad to see "Early Life" removed from Facebook "Info" since it's repeated later. • Age might be of interest to you, but if readers want to know how old she was at any point in time, they can quickly work it out. It's an unencyclopedic approach to laboriously list all her ages in this way, and is done in no other singer's article.
• I've re-removed all the contentious material I identified above, including what appear to be brain dumps and not remotely acceptable writing. I salvaged what I could, but it wasn't much. Please do not re-insert any of the rest of it before gaining consensus HERE on the talk page.
• The relationship between Wikipedia and Facebook is a matter for the tech people of both organisations, and not something to be discussed on individual article talk pages like this one.

JackofOz, thanks for watching over this page. I've attempted bits of work on it sporadically (and formerly, anonymously) over the last few years, beginning when I first discovered a bare-bones entry with blanks left to be filled in. Before plunging back in last week (beginning with the Professional Career section for now), my last additions were made back around February. I'm not a Wikipedia adept, so I will make some mistakes and will have questions of various kinds. For now, let me begin at the beginning. I'm wondering if it's really necessary to have hyperlinks on terms like "American" and "Greek". Also, do you see any reason for including the Greek spelling and pronunciation of her name? She was American, spoke little Greek, rarely sang in Greece, and probably never pronounced it that way. On the other hand, the information is interesting and, I'm told, correct, so I'm wondering about the possibility of transposing it down to a new category, "Miscellany" or some such, which could also harbor other factoids -- but I'm not sure that Wikipedia works this way.
