edit"boghammar ... has also come to mean an improvised naval fighting vessel". This statement needs an academic reference. I'm afraid the Lockheed Martin press release isn't good enough. —Michael Z. 2006-12-07 19:12 Z
Meaning
editDoes boghammar mean something in Swedish? The Boghammar Marin article says that the company owners took it as a family name after the success of the bogbåt ("bog-boat"?). --Error (talk) 20:39, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
The meaning
editWell guys, it's a family name alright. Bog means bow and hammar well I would guess that it's related to the swedish word for hammer which is hammare and thereby sort of referencing the ship building business (correct me if I'm wrong, relatives).
It's a bit sad to find that when "googling" your family name all you find is references to this darn naval fighting vessel. The owners of Boghammar Marin AB are currently updating their website, it used to have a rather good description of the history of the shipyard but that's not there anymore. Hope it gets back. (I'm not part of the part of the family involved in the ship yard business)
(And BogBåt in a direct translation would be BowBoat, whatever that means?) Boghammar (talk) 21:12, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
BTW: Wrong boat on pictures?
editI don't remember that the boat that Boghammar Marin AB constructed looked at all as the boat on the pictures. It looked more like this one http://www.grime.net/facets/models/boghammar.htm. Boghammar (talk) 05:28, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
