Genealogy edit
The Husaynid genealogy given by Mortel, cited to Ibn Khaldun, does not match that given by Wasim Dahmash in "On Sādāt Role in Medieval Ramlah", Oriente Moderno 18.2 (1999): 441–450, who writes:
The founder [of the Al Tahir family or the Banu Tahir], Tahir ibn Yahya al-Nassabah ibn al-Hasan ibn Ga'far al Huggah ibn 'Ubaydallah al-A'rag ibn al-Husayn al-Asgar ibn 'AH Zayn al-'Abidln ibn al-Husayn ibn 'AH ibn Abl Talib, is one of the members of this family who also appears in other sources. He is mentioned in the books of nasab and in the works of chroniclers. Genealogists and other prosopographic books' authors agree that Tahir was amir in Madina. His grandson, Tahir ibn al-Hasan ibn Tahir ... was ra'is in Ramlah.
I cannot get Dahmash's genealogical tables to match with Mortel's. He mentions nobody named Muslim, for one. Nor does he cite Ibn Khaldun. I have no idea what is going on, but I can send anybody the Dahmash article if they want. Werner Ende, "The Nakhāwila, a Shite Community in Medina Past and Present", Die Welt des Islams (1997): 263–348, supports the "son of Muslim" account, but does not name Tahir for some reason.
