editI rewrote this somewhat to emphasize the fact that the use of overalls is mostly limited to engineering students, and removed the stuff about most students in the humanities secretly owning an overall ("Traditionally, the use of overalls has been most widespread among the engineering students and the students of humanities have disdained their use, although even most of these do own a pair."), as it is, in my experince, completely untrue. (OK, I have my degree in the humanities, so maybe I am just lying about the overalls I secretly have hanging in my closet...)
As for the rest, the article would really need some references, not the least the part about exchanging overall fragments with ones co-copulator/co-copulatress. I am sure one or several of the student unions at the Swedish engineering schools must have had something published on the topic of student overalls. Uppland 09:07, 28 July 2005 (UTC)
"Unlike overalls generally, the student overall is used only for parties." - isn't correct, have changed it. The overalls typically, at least at Chalmers University of Technology have a main purpose as work clothing in pubs, while doing maintenance of student areas, or by the reception of new students (nollning), etc. There also exist overalls not used in this purpose, but I wouldn't say it's the ones you normally see. And no, of course this doesn't stop the Chalmers students to also party in their overalls... :-) TERdON 20:04, 2 September 2005 (UTC)
- OK! Now, I think it would be very useful with an illustration for this article. How about that? Uppland 20:21, 2 September 2005 (UTC)
- I'm planning on fixing that little problem, as soon as I move back to Sweden. Until then, I probably won't unpack my overall (I just moved a few days ago to another apartment in Germany, and frankly, as I'm not even going to live here for a month, I won't take myself the time to unpack it.). It'll come though, I promise. TERdON 22:40, 5 September 2005 (UTC)
Bordering on alcoholism
editI changed "often" to "sometimes" when referring to the fact that people associate alcohol with student overalls. I know plenty of people who do not drink alcohol and are happily using their overalls every weekend, and also many who border on alcoholism who also use their overalls very often. Usage of the Student overall is probably not connected to alcoholism but to participation in student-like activities. This could probably be clarified a lot and someone should probably suggest a better wording. 130.240.200.146 01:45, 29 March 2006 (UTC)
Rewording?
edit'ovve which translates to "ovvie" in English' - There *isn't* a word "ovvie" in English; should this be 'transliterates' instead? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.234.4.76 (talk) 21:41, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
- No. The final E is pronounced rather "eh" than "ie". Further I removed the reference to the name Ove - since any native Swedish speaker would not pronounce the (correctly spelt with TWO - not one - Ls) "ovve" the same way. TERdON (talk) 15:20, 3 August 2011 (UTC)
