I grabbed, or perhaps interpreted would be a better word, most of the material for this article from the Romanian Wiki, and the working link in the references: http://www.itcnet.ro/history/archive/mi2001/current5/mi59.htm. Google was used to make rough translations.
This was more or less in the way of an experiment -- since until today, I couldn't -- that I know of -- read a word of Romanian. (Turns out I can make out basic vocabulary.) It seems that the article could benefit greatly from expansion, and I was more than once reminded of Antoine de Saint Exupéry.
Overall, I'll say outright that I have the faintest suspicion that the sources are not reliable, and that they are at least partially contrived propaganda. There are things seem inconsistent, or which do not quite ring true. The chronology doesn't seem right, and it's odd that a substitute teacher who was at an arts school for ceramics for several years should become an exceptional aviator (one who owned two planes). It's not clear how someone could be in a "medical wing", yet be a military parachute instructor.
I'd like to think I'm wrong, and hopefully future research will clear this up. From indications, Smaranda Brăescu could merit her own biographical book. Piano non troppo (talk) 12:35, 28 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
