Musical? edit

We're currently describing this as a "musical", but does it really meet the criteria? It's a movie with musical elements, the story is about kids starting a band, but the music is always sourced on-screen, it's not like the characters are departing from reality into song like the typical definition of a musical. Granted there is one exception, the "Drive it Like You Stole It" sequence midway through the film, though it's revealed to be a day-dream, so it's not really interwoven into the narrative. Same with Begin Again (film) and Once (film). --Shivertimbers433 (talk) 19:37, 8 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

I don't know anything about this film, but the sources seem to describe it as a musical, including the Rotten Tomatoes consensus. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 19:42, 8 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
It's a musical in that it has musical sequences with songs. I don't think it matters that these are plotted performances of songs. Although it could be argued that they are all, in "reality" dramatised performances because the band is simply too good, too quickly. You could easily compare it with The Commitments (film), which people undoubtedly have. It's also a musical, about a band. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 15:08, 9 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
