Talk:Sciaenidae

Latest comment: 8 years ago by Justlettersandnumbers in topic Proposed merge with Croaking mechanism of Sciaenidae

I've seen the silurus refered to as a memmber of the siluridae family, not Sciaenidae as refered to here. I'm not a biologist or ichthyologist (sp?), but I move to strike this sentance: "The silurus, a large and ravenous fish, which abounds in the Danube, gives daily proof of this phenomenon." Unless someone with propper authority/background can establish what's what. --Dymaxion 19:34, 8 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

References: edit

I agree the silurus reference is clearly to a catfish, and so mistaken. Stan 20:35, 8 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Edibility edit

It would be nice if there was some information about which fish in this family are commonly eaten Kevink707 (talk) 13:08, 18 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Proposed merge with Croaking mechanism of Sciaenidae edit

There's not enough content there to justify a separate page; schoolboy contribution, statements (including the basic premise, "all Sciaenidae croak") not well supported by the sources. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 10:14, 3 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

I also think this information should be included on the Sciaenidae page. It's not enough to warrant a separate article and it would help explain the common names "croaker" and "drum" for this family. Joel (talk) 16:54, 3 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Agreed, it definitely belongs in here. I don't see a merge being controversial (given that this has been proposed for several months with no objections) so I'll suggest we go ahead and do it. I've haven't merged articles before, but looking at WP:MERGE it doesn't look too difficult. @Justlettersandnumbers: would you care to do the act or shall I? AAshortfin, I would be very happy for you to do it if you feel like it. Many thanks, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 13:36, 18 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
