  • As per Wikipedia:Manual of Style (headings), please do not link words in headings.[?]
  • This article is a bit too short, and therefore may not be as comprehensive as WP:WIAFA critera 1(b) is looking for. Please see if anything can be expanded upon.[?]
  • There are a few occurrences of weasel words in this article- please observe WP:AWT. Certain phrases should specify exactly who supports, considers, believes, etc., such a view.
    • it has been
    • might be weasel words, and should be provided with proper citations (if they already do, or are not weasel terms, please strike this comment).[?]
  • Watch for redundancies that make the article too wordy instead of being crisp and concise. (You may wish to try Tony1's redundancy exercises.)
    • Vague terms of size often are unnecessary and redundant - “some”, “a variety/number/majority of”, “several”, “a few”, “many”, “any”, and “all”. For example, “All pigs are pink, so we thought of a number of ways to turn them green.”
  • The script has spotted the following contractions: Don't, Don't, don't, aren't, wouldn't, don't, wasn't, couldn't, haven't, couldn't, couldn't, if these are outside of quotations, they should be expanded.
  • This article needs footnotes, preferably in the cite.php format recommended by WP:WIAFA. Simply, enclose inline citations, with WP:CITE or WP:CITE/ES information, with <ref>THE FOOTNOTE</ref>. At the bottom of the article, in a section named “References” or “Footnotes”, add <div class="references-small"><references/></div>.[?]

GA review edit

Hello, I will be reviewing this article for its GA candidancy. So far it looks like it passes the quickfail critera, so a full review is forthcoming. Good luck! FamicomJL (talk) 23:18, 29 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

GA on hold edit

Looks good, but needs some things. Like,

  • "As part of its Applications Technology Satellites program in the 1960s, NASA sought to field test the direct broadcast of television programs to terrestrial receivers via satellite and shortlisted India, Brazil and the People's Republic of China as potential sites to stage the test." -- This sentence reads as very confusing to me. The transition between "via satellite and shortlisted India, etc..." just seems to me to be a little confusing. Maybe a small re-write, to make it easier to understand, can be done?
  • "While the communist regime of China was not recognised at the time by the U.S., Brazil was also ruled out as its population was concentrated in the cities, affecting the outreach of the broadcast across the country." -- It has no reference, and a claim like that definitely needs a reference/citation.
  • Just even in general, the whole "Background" section could use a lot more references/citations. Actually, I'm sure a lot of that stuff is even in the same sources that you reference in other places.
  • The objectives could use some citations, too.
  • "Internal collaboration" could use some citations, as well.
  • "Technical details" looks nice, but a few things could use citations. They are,
"Each of the centres had a production studio, three IVC tape recorders, two 16 mm. projectors, a slide Projector in Telecine and audio equipment like tape desks and turntables. Each centre also had 2–3 full fledged synchronised sound camera units, an editing table (Delhi had two) and a film processing plant."
"The television programmes prepared by the Indian government at the four studios were transmitted at 6 GHz to ATS 6 from one of two ground stations located in Delhi and Ahmedabad. These signals were then re-transmitted at 860 MHz by the satellite, which were directly received in 2000 villages by community television receivers with 3 m parabolic antennas. Regular television stations also received the signals and broadcast them to another 3000 villages in the standard VHF television band."
"LRB consisted of a simple receiver system having a 4.5 m chicken-mesh parabolic antenna with a low-noise block converter, that served as the front-end for a low-power TV transmitter at the same location. Two suitable locations, Sambalpur in Orissa (75 villages) and Muzaffarpur in Bihar (110 villages), were tentatively identified for implementing LRB transmitter systems."

The other few paragraphs however, look nice and accurately cited and sourced. Since this probably won't be too hard of a job to do, I will put this article on hold. If you have any questions, or if you finish all of the requirements, please send me a message on my talk page. Thank you, and good luck! FamicomJL (talk) 17:19, 3 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

GA fail edit

Failed due to inactivity, and no one answering the things I pointed out. Fix the above things, and feel free to re-nominate! Regards, FamicomJL (talk) 02:50, 11 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Further information edit

If editing is ever resumed, then the information in 'Satellite Instructional Television Experiment (SITE), Reports From The NASA Resident Representative In India, Howard L. Galloway Jr.' should be incorporated as it is reprints of messages sent by the NASA representative prior to his death in India during SITE. It provides a useful look into the project as it was running by a man who was intimately involved in it.

I've located a further document of potential use for this article:

'Satellite Educational Television for India, An Examination of Economic & Policy Aspects, Lakshmi Prasad Vepa'

It's a 1969 Masters Thesis discussing the project.Graham1973 (talk) 16:06, 31 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Following several discussions in past years, these subpages are now deprecated. The comments may be irrelevant or outdated; if so, please feel free to remove this section.

I have rated this article:
  • A as it is almost FA worthy, meeting most of the criteria. A few modifications could help before submitting to FAC
  • Importance = Low : Not central to WP India's coverage of core India topics. It overs a highly specific area of knowledge or an obscure piece of trivia. =Nichalp «Talk»= 08:17, 24 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
