Contested deletion
editThis article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because Cook was the recruiter who initiated the gathering of men in Colorado to form the volunteer regiment. The regiment was important in winning the battle of Glorieta Pass and it also indirectly led to Governor Gilpin's financial scandal and dismissal. Moreover, Chivington's involvement in the regiment led to his promotion, success and involvement in the Sand Creek massacre. Therefore, since Cook was responsible for recruiting hundreds of men to form the regiment and agreeing to fight for Colorado, his actions had major bearing on the history of the territories. --K.Bog 17:03, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
