Pre-congregational edit

An IP editor has changed the lead sentence from "...Pre-congregational saint..." to "...Catholic saint..." with the edit summary:

Pre-congregational changed to Catholic. It makes NO SENSE to describe these figures as pre-congregational. Their beliefs were entirely those of the Catholic Church of their day and that's how they would have identified themselves.

The same editor has made this change to several other articles on early Welsh saints. The term was introduced when D A R C 12345 created the article.

Presumably Pre-congregational saint is intended to indicate that Isan was declared to be a saint by the old mechanism, before 1170 when Pope Alexander III reserved canonisation to the papacy. However, the mechanisms whereby saints are recognised are too specialist for inclusion in a short article about an individual saint, and it is better to just state and link saint.

Labelling Isan as a Catholic saint is misleading as he is also recognised as a saint by the Church in Wales (Anglican), two of whose churches are dedicated to him.

Pre-congregational does not appear to ascribe any particular beliefs. However, insofar as we can deduce the beliefs of Isan he is likely to have followed the traditions of Celtic Christianity, which were significantly different from those of the wider Catholic church.
