Shestakovsky or Shostakovsky? edit

The sources currently cited in the article all spell it "Shostakovsky", but the name has apparently been transliterated both ways. I found two additional sources which spell it "Shestakovsky":

  • Lourié, Arthur; Pring, S. W., translator (1931). Sergei Koussevitzky and His Epoch. New York: A. A. Knopf. OCLC 460328575. Read Books 2008 reprint: ISBN 9781443731096. Preview at Google Books.
  • Sabaneeff, Leonid (July 1966). "A. N. Scriabin – A Memoir" Russian Review, 25 (3): 257–267. Restricted view at JSTOR.

I tried these Google searches:

  • Shostakovsky (Peter OR Piotr OR Pyotr) -Wikipedia -Wiki : "About 846 results"
  • Shestakovsky (Peter OR Piotr OR Pyotr) -Wikipedia -Wiki : "About 36 results"

I feel we should spell it "Shostakovsky", which seems to be used more commonly, with some sort of footnote giving the alternative transliteration as "Shestakovsky". Or if there is a source which specifically says that "Shostakovsky" is an incorrect transliteration, then "Shestakovsky" should be used with the source supporting that transliteration cited. But I think we need to say something about the alternative spellings in a footnote, and not leave it the way it is right now, which is confusing. --Robert.Allen (talk) 19:01, 17 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
