Junagadh rock inscription

edit

The Junagadh rock contains inscriptions of Ashoka (fourteen of the Edicts of Ashoka), Rudradaman I and Skandagupta.

A nice image of the Junagadh rock, on which the inscriptions related to Rudradaman I can be found. Feel free to insert in the article. PHG (talk) 18:51, 26 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Rudradaman did not rule Avanti

edit

The Junagadh inscription says Akaravanti (Eastern Malwa). which does not include Avanti. Akaravanti also called Sudarshana in later times comprised of only Eatern Malwa. Thus, Rudradaman could occupy the entire Eastern Malwa, right from western point, probably just before Bhopal till perhaps Bhilsai. He certainly did not occupy Avanti, as was done by Nahapana and later, Chastana. Chastana must have ruled from Ujjain for hardly 4 years, when the Gardabhilas (or some other tribes) have occupied Ujjain, as per the testimony of Jain works.

The later satavahanas could reoccupy Avanti and successfully ruled it for 242 years. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kishorepatnaik (talkcontribs) 05:32, 10 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
