Talk:Robert Douglas (New Zealand politician)

Article title edit

I was adding a list of colonels to the article on the Royal Scots when I came across this article. It was created on 14 July 2010 as Robert Douglas (New Zealand), moved to Robert Douglas (New Zealand politician) on 21 August 2012 and then to its current title on 7 December 2015. I think Sir Robert Douglas, 3rd Baronet needs to be a disambiguation page as there were two Douglas baronets of that name and numeral, but I really don't know what would be the best title destination for this article. WP:NCPEER suggests to use the territorial designation, but that's no use, as both baronetcies were "of Glenbervie". I've just created an article on the other baronet at Robert Douglas (died 1692). I believe with peers we usually use the creation to disambiguate. So perhaps this should be Sir Robert Douglas, 3rd Baronet (1831 creation) and the other Sir Robert Douglas, 3rd Baronet (1625 creation)? Proteus (Talk) 14:03, 1 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
I would suggest Sir Robert Douglas, 3rd Baronet (died 1884) and Sir Robert Douglas, 3rd Baronet (died 1692) as more useful disambiguators. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:19, 1 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
Both these options seem a bit long-winded to me. I'm opening a requested move discussion to attract a few more opinions. Opera hat (talk) 16:56, 12 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
I can only find one other example of using the creation date for baronets: Sir John Stonhouse, 2nd Baronet (creation of 1628) and Sir John Stonhouse, 2nd Baronet (creation of 1670). Opera hat (talk) 17:56, 12 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

The result of the move request was: Move. We have unanimous support after over a week. I'll add a hat note to the other Robert Douglas as well. Cúchullain t/c 12:55, 23 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Sir Robert Douglas, 3rd BaronetRobert Douglas (New Zealand politician) – There was another Robert Douglas (died 1692) of the same title, numeral and territorial designation, so Sir Robert Douglas, 3rd Baronet should redirect to the disambiguation page Robert Douglas and be placed in Category:Redirects from incomplete disambiguations. As the baronetcy is insufficient disambiguation, and WP:MIDDLENAME would discourage using the subject's full name Robert Andrews Mackenzie Douglas, moving the article back to Robert Douglas (New Zealand politician) seems the simplest option. This is also standard for other articles in Category:Members of the New Zealand House of Representatives. Opera hat (talk) 16:56, 12 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Seems sensible. The NZ politician bit seems to be the only thing in the article that even has a source would make him notable. W. P. Uzer (talk) 06:54, 13 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
Support, as it is indeed a standard dab for New Zealand MPs when there are politicians from other countries of the same name. Schwede66 08:32, 13 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • Support per nom. All baronets should have placenames attached, if they use "Baronet" in their article names -- 70.51.46.39 (talk) 07:46, 14 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
