Personal Life

edit

In hindsight, one can pick up on Richard Deacon being gay from the vicious ad libs of homophobic Morey Amsterdam which were allowed to air on The Dick Van Dyke Show. Dick Kimball (talk) 17:47, 1 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

I don't think there is any merit to Richard Kimball's claims of vicious ad libs, or vicious ad libs of a homophobic nature by Mr. Amsterdam. I saw all the DVD episodes and did not notice any hidden jabs at sexual orientation. Where Richard Kimball conjured up ideas that Morey Amsterdam was anti-gay, I don't know.

Isn't Richard Kimball a fugitive and wanted for something? The U.S. Marshals should find this fugitive, put him into custody and bring him to justice.

God Bless, Richard Deacon, who also had a bit part in a very funny film called Enter Laughing, written by Carl Reiner and also starring José Ferrer . Thank you.

Although in the categories list, Deacon is listed as a gay actor, although there is no mention of his sexuality in the article. Shouldn't there be some mention in the body of the article instead of just the category link?Jtyroler (talk) 20:24, 26 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

I removed it on February 4, 2013. "Richard Kimball" is one of the nuts who tries to out every single male Hollywood actor in the 1950s and 1960s. According to the looneys, every man you see on Turner Classic Movies and Antenna TV was a closeted gay. Ronald Reagan's marriage to Nancy was a lavender marriage. This insanity isn't going to motivate the U.S. Supreme Court to legalize same-sex marriage in all 50 states.

But Descon himself came out, in a 1970s Interview published in the 1996 book Hollywood Gays. Moncrief (talk) 13:11, 12 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
The book Hollywood Gays was and is a fringe source. What is an author going to do next? Research and write about Hollywood professionals who eat butter pecan ice cream during their leisure time? 2603:8000:18F0:410:245D:BC28:9B5D:3959 (talk) 10:46, 15 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, and what's with all the Korean stuff?!?! 38.115.185.13 (talk) 15:20, 7 December 2011 (UTC)KimReply

Deacon himself came up with many of the insults Buddy hurled at Mel. 75.171.5.97 (talk) 07:48, 6 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

I don't care whether he was gay but I am disgusted by some of the talk here. Wastrel Way (talk) Eric

Morey Amsterdam

edit

In no way, shape or form did Morey Amsterdam hurl ANY gay bashing hidden or in the open at Richard Deacon in TDVDS. The only thing he continually made fun of was his baldness, his size, his spectacles or the fact that he thought Mel was stupid and a flunky for Alan. This entire page of conversation has nothing to do with Deacon, and should be deleted by an administrator, as the person who started it is obviously a bothersome Troll. Pookerella (talk) 03:03, 4 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Deacon and Amsterdam were actually close friends, and they worked out their gags and insults over drinks after work — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.31.165.138 (talk) 21:12, 15 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Richard Deacon publicly came out as gay. Why is there no mention of this? (92.4.11.203 (talk) 20:41, 27 December 2015 (UTC))Reply

Not true. The book was issued by a vanity publisher more than ten years after his death. The author can say anything he wants about a dead person.Myra or someone (talk) 22:32, 25 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Richard Deacon was Jewish

Like his character in "The Dick Van Dyke Show", Deacon was Jewish. (86.137.48.36 (talk) 21:44, 28 March 2018 (UTC))Reply

Is this supported by a legitimate source? No one has added it to the article.Myra or someone (talk) 22:32, 25 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Deacon is an English and Irish name, for what it's worth. Maybe people just think he looks more like Phil Silvers than Joe Flynn!

"Recorded in several spelling forms including Deacon, Deecon, Deason, Deeson, Deasin, Deakin and Deakins, this interesting surname is Anglo-Scottish."

was forced to be a closeted gay man

edit

Does the citation support that statement?--Malerooster (talk) 00:12, 29 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Malerooster, I removed "forced to be" because that was added by an IP. But regarding you removing the gay actor category, is this because you question whether it's more so speculation that he was gay, like the speculation regarding whether James Dean was straight, gay, or bisexual? Both of the sources do state that Deacon was gay; the second source states that he was closeted, which supports the "closeted" usage. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 07:51, 29 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
Both sources are fringe sources. They are books issued by vanity publishers. In Wikipedia, every vanity-published book is a fringe source. Your contrast between Richard Deacon and James Dean is nonsensical because very few people are interested in Deacon and a lot of people are interested in Dean. We need dispute resolution here.Myra or someone (talk) 22:36, 25 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
You need to check out WP:RS. Both sources are university publishers, not vanity presses. - LuckyLouie (talk) 00:22, 26 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
University presses are generally RS. Certainty the NY one is, it is a respected academic publisher.Slatersteven (talk) 14:55, 26 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Neither of those are vanity presses. Myra: What on Earth makes you think they are???? --Orange Mike | Talk 18:44, 26 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Where, exactly, is it established that the University Press of Mississippi is a "vanity press"? I'm not seeing anything to that effect in their submission guidelines. In fact, it explicitly says they're not-for-profit. --tronvillain (talk) 19:34, 27 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
LuckyLouie, Slatersteven, Orangemike and Tronvillain, just letting you know that Richard Harbringer (talk · contribs) made this edit. The removal of unsourced material is, of course, fine. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 06:28, 24 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
Regarding this revert, I removed the unsourced bit. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 04:32, 25 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
