Sinking Gym - Stinking Media Center
editI went to Rich East 1968-1972. I remember the whole main gym floor having to be replaced because the east end of the building sank and the rest stayed where it was. Also, the Media Center in the front of the building was built on a swamp and when it rained really hard for a few days the swamp water would come up and you couldn't breathe in there. The head librarian, Mr. Hayes, would be running around trying to save books.. hence his nickname "Swampy".
"The Revillier" newspaper was radically left wing in a predominantly right wing school and city. Most of the students just ignored the paper all together, but the school board tried unsuccessfully to censor and even close it down. Another notable fact about Rich East was that it had a working, student-run radio station in the 70's. Very progressive for high schools at the time.71.66.106.111 (talk) 05:10, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
Lagoon
editI am shocked that there is no mention that there was a nice sized lagoon on the campus of Rich East. In the nice weather, students would sit around it during lunch times. In the winter, if it froze enough, the surface would be smoothed and people would ice skate on it. The school yearbook was named "The Lagoon" after it. 71.66.106.111 (talk) 05:15, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
