Brain death or organ donation? edit

If this article is about "religious views on organ donation," then why is the majority of it taken up by discussing religious views on brain death. Brain death does not at all = organ donation! (68.175.69.32 (talk) 13:32, 9 August 2011 (UTC))Reply

Hi @68.175.69.32: I agree with not focusing the article around brain death as it confuses the reader in thinking that this article is about brain death and not religious views on organ donation. Do you think mentioning brain death is still important for the purposes of this article, or should it not be mentioned at all? Thanks, and I appreciate your feedback. I ended up deleting the section on "debate surrounding brain death." It did not relate to organ donation at all and had some unreliable sources such as a link from yahoo. Kvraffy (talk) 13:40, 17 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Suggested additions to the article edit

Hi fellow Wikipedians, I am going to add information to this article as part of my religion class assignment at the University of Miami. The link to my class page can be found here [1]. I have already started research on this topic and have been able to find ample credible sources with information that can be added to this article. First, I want to add more to the "General overview" section about what organ donation means, and the difference between live and deceased organ donations and how that makes a difference in religious views. The Christianity section can be organized to make the sections more clear. I believe the "1981 report" and "Roman Catholic medical ethics" can be mentioned but don't necessarily need their own sections. I will also add to each major religion section based on research I have gathered. Additionally, adding a section on the importance of this topic in healthcare could be beneficial. You can check out my bibliography on my sandbox page User:Kvraffy/sandbox. Please feel free to reach out with any additional topics that should be covered in this article and any possible sources I can find more information from. Future Direction/Suggestions edit

Hi everyone! I'm very excited to see this page up on Wikipedia with a great foundation! I have some suggestions for next steps to really make this page as comprehensive as possible.

I think that there are opportunities to improve on the general picture of organ, eye, and tissue donation and transplantation. For instance, it is important to address the role and influence of religion to many members of the community and to acknowledge how there are multiple views on organ donation given that these texts were created in times where current medical technologies weren't available.

Furthermore, I believe that it might be helpful to indicate the different Islamic practices such as Sunni and Shi'a in the Islam section. I went ahead and contributed in a brief addendum of Shari'a law and how that affects Muslim society as a whole. I also added in some information about the guiding principles as well as two highly influential organizations that ruled on concepts such as brain death vs cessation of heartbeat. I think it might also be helpful to go through the subcategories that are allowed and not allowed to be donated through interpretations of Shari'a law.
