sources Soviet destruction

@Felcotiya: You write "what artwork had not been evacuated was smashed or burned by the Soviets". Can you please point me to the place in the source which says that? I can only find references to pottery being destroyed, and the Russian soldiers burning religious artworks, such as altars. I can not find anything which claims 'everything not gone was destroyed' or something close to this.Lommes (talk) 14:29, 13 April 2017 (UTC)

That's the right section, about "Régi Képtár". The statuette, along with the damaged exhibits you mention, were in the Old Gallery. In the preceding paragraph about "antik plasztikai", they recount on how some of the less visible exhibits hadn't been damaged as much or stolen. There's not much detail there, and those statements are sourced to the museum's or historical publications that I unfortunately don't have access to. --Felcotiya (talk) 14:54, 13 April 2017 (UTC)

@Felcotiya: Yes, that is what I understood. But then, there is quite some doubt as to whether the Rearing Horse and Mounted Warrior would have been damaged, if it had still been there. Right? And then any relevance of the Soviet destruction of Hungarian Museum artworks to Rearing Horse and Mounted Warrior is pure speculation. Please see WP:SPECULATION. So, in the hope of sounding reasonable and not too harsh, I would like to ask you to do one of three things:

1. Either, find a source which says "virtually everything that was left was destroyed",
2. or, find a reputable source which speculates "if the Rearing Horse and Mounted Warrior had been there, the Soviets would have destroyed it, or damaged it, or done something else to it",
3. or, delete the whole section between the Rearing Horse and Mounted Warrior moving to Austria, and the Monuments Men finding it there.

I see your point when talking about the DYK hook, but the article doesn't go as far anymore. The state of the permanent home of the subject is relevant in any evacuation scenario. --Felcotiya (talk) 18:25, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
