I have reworded the cited sentence about his men considering him a nincompoop. Although I do not have the reference to check this, the definition of the word--"A nincompoop is an English term usually meant to describe a person who is silly, foolish, stupid, and/or useless."--does not comport with the edit summary regarding torture of his men.
