Is Hainanese a Yue dialect?
editHainanese is similar to Cantonese in grammar and pronunications and, also the proximity of Canton and their continuous contact with each others, one can say that Hainanese dialect can be classed as a Yue dialect. I think more linguists should research the Hainanese dialect again. Hainanese dialect should be called the Southwestern Cantonese dialect. Sonic99 03:47, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

Hainanese Tones
editHi Can whoever made this article, include the tones of Hainanese, as in like a tone chart or just describe the tones in Hainanese like the ones in Cantonese, Mandarin, etc.? It would be very helpful for me. Thanks Vlag (talk) 00:36, 6 March 2008 (UTC)Vlag
language or dialect?
editIf people wish to remove Hainanese from Min Nan as a distinct language, then I suggest we move the article to Hainan Min or Qiongwen Min. Meanwhile, all Chinese lects below major divisions such as Min Nan are called "dialects", and we should remain consistent. This should also be coordinated with Teochew dialect/Teochow Min. —kwami (talk) 22:09, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
