False article edit

"Prora, also known as the Colossus of Prora, is a building complex on the island of Rügen, Germany" - this is not correct. Prora is a district of the municipality Binz. The "Colossus of Prora" is a building, located in Prora. But it is not Prora alone. Prora is more than the KdF-Bad. -- Marcus Cyron (talk) 14:06, 8 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

But the article is about the building and not the district. Beyond My Ken (talk) 22:11, 8 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
I think he has a point though as that is not the actual name of the building and never has been. Lard Almighty (talk) 06:35, 9 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
It is, however, the English-language WP:COMMONNAME, and that is what we go by. ("The Statue of Liberty" is not the actual name of the giant sculpture in New York Harbor either.) Beyond My Ken (talk) 07:21, 9 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
But in this case it is incorrect to simply state that Prora is the resort complex (more than one building BTW) when it is in fact the name of the broader location. I am not suggesting moving the page (in all other languages it is simply "Prora") but I don't see any problem with starting the English article in the way the German and other articles start, along the lines of:
"Prora is a beach resort in the municipality of Binz on the island of Rügen, Germany, best known for the Colossus of Prora, a building complex that was built by Nazi Germany between 1936 and 1939 as part of the Strength Through Joy (Kraft durch Freude or KdF) project."
Lard Almighty (talk) 07:59, 9 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
The problem with that is that the lead sentence is supposed to introduce the subject of the article, and your suggestion implies that the beach resort is the subject, which is it not. Better would be "Prora, also known as the Colossus of Prora, is a building complex in the beach resort of Prora, part of the municipality of Binz on the island of Rügen, Germany, ..." or "The Colossus of Prora", commonly known as simply "Prora" is a building complex in the beach resort of Prora..." Either of these keeps the lead sentence as being about the building, and does not mislead the reader into thinking that the article is about the resort. "The Colossus of Prora, commonly known as simply "Prora", is a building complex in the municipality of Binz on the island of Rügen, Germany. It was built by Nazi Germany between 1936 and 1939 as part of the Strength Through Joy (Kraft durch Freude or KdF) project." would work for me. Lard Almighty (talk) 15:09, 9 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
It doen't answer the OP's original objection, though, does it? Beyond My Ken (talk) 16:39, 9 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
I think it's as good as we're going to get without moving the article which as you say per WP:COMMONNAME we shouldn't do. Even in German the Prora article is mainly about the complex even though it starts "Prora is a district of the municipality of Binz on the island of Rügen." Lard Almighty (talk) 16:48, 9 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
OK. It doesn't look as if this discussion is attracting anyone else's attention, so I'll make that change as you and I have agreed, and if someone comes along to objrct we'll take it from there. Beyond My Ken (talk) 21:35, 9 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
