What is "undercooling"? (The page says: "Unlike her older sisters, she was presented to the press several hours after her birth, to prevent undercooling".) ~Aranel Alasse~ 21:24, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

It has been noted that undercooling can be recognized in the case of highly premature or full-term newborn babies from an intense cooling of the periphery, while the core of the body is still in the normal range. This is based on the body's attempt to maintain the core temperature by throttling the blood flow to the periphery, thus reducing the heat loss to the environment at the periphery. An increasing fever can be recognized from a decrease in the peripheral temperature with rising core temperature of the body. The body has centralized the blood flow to the core in this case in order to heat to a higher temperature, and it throttles the blood flow to the periphery in order to save heat and to use it to heat the central organs. A subsiding fever can be recognized from the high core temperature of the body with a simultaneously high peripheral temperature.

This was from a post at theroyalforums.com: Princess Alexia was shown to the media in two hours after her birth. When she was returned to the warden, the medical team discovered the youngborn Princess was undercooled. This time the Princess and the Prince decided to wait for 8 hours at least before showing the royal infant to the world. They want to avoid any risk.

Thank you for the explanation about undercooling, Morhange. I'm super new to the whole editing-Wikipedia thing, so could you perhaps add a precise reference link in this article for those bits of information about the undercooling? And, to further avoid confusion, perhaps you could rephrase the sentence from:

"Unlike her older sisters, she was presented to the press several hours after her birth, to prevent undercooling."

to:

"Unlike her older sisters, she was not presented to the press until several hours after her birth, in order to prevent undercooling."

Not knowing what undercooling was, I assumed that the "presenting to the press" was what prevented the undercooling. But really, it was the not presenting to the press right away that prevented the undercooling.

(Like I said, I'm new to this, so I don't really want to make the edit myself.... Plus, I don't know the official source for the info, either, whereas you do.) --~Aranel Alasse~ 22:24, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Names

Yes, the dutch article says this as well, and from memory that is what i remember as well. It was initially believed by most to reference the childs mother, but I remember several people on the news correcting that statement later. The problem is that it is very hard to find a reliable source atm that says so. --TheDJ (talk • contribs) 11:20, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
